Top Ten Books on my Summer 2022 To-Read List

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This should be fun! There’s quite a few books I’m hoping to get to this summer, definitely a few on my NetGalley list and I have a stack of paperbacks I want to read asap!

So, taking from my paperbacks, NetGalley, and other books on my kindle, I give you my

Summer 2022 TBR

Firstly from NetGalley, there are a few books I have my eye on that are coming out towards the end of summer.

1. Babel by R.F. Kuang (August 23rd, 2022) 2. Her Majesty’s Royal Coven by Juno Dawson (July 21st, 2022) 3. The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean (August 18th, 2022)

I’m really looking forward to reading these three – they all have intriguing premises, all seem right up my street, and R.F. Kuang is a fantastic writer, I’m sure Babel is going to be great!

There’s also books on my NetGalley backlog I’m really hoping to get to over the summer.

4. Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett 5. Nothing But Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw 6. A Lady’s Guide to Fortune-Hunting by Sophie Irwin

I’ve missed the release dates for all these, but I’m still excited to read them! Guards! Guards! does probably mean skipping ahead in the series, but luckily, Discworld is the type of series you can do that with an not get lost. Nothing But Blackened Teeth I’ve heard so many good things about, and A Lady’s Guide to Fortune-Hunting…well, I am enjoying digging into Regency at the moment!

Of course, I can’t ignore the paperbacks currently taking up a lot of room in my bedroom, and the ones of them I’m eyeing up for summer are

7. A Little Gay History of Wales by Daryl Leeworthy 8. A Lady for a Duke by Alexis Hall 9. A Blade So Black by L.L. McKinney

I picked up A Little Gay History of Wales ages ago, intending to read and review it in time for Pride, but other things kind of took over. I am really keen to dig into this one – so much LGBT+ history is only just emerging, or isn’t as known as it should be, thanks to attempts to wipe it out. And we’re incredibly lucky to have this book specifically for Wales, a country that doesn’t tend to get lots of attention. A Lady for a Duke I haven’t had for as long, but it sounds so right up my street, as soon as I got it I knew I had to read it next. And finally, A Blade So Black, which has been sitting on my shelf for way way too long. I really need to read this one, it truly sounds fantastic.

And for the final book, there are a few on my kindle I want to read, mainly picked up from things like Book Throne or spotting deals for ebooks. There are way too many, but currently top of my list –

10. Scales and Sensibility by Stephanie Burgis

This has been on my list for way too long, and it feels like it might be perfect to read over the summer, so I’ll definitely be making time for it!

And there we have it – the books I’m hoping to get to this summer! Whether it happens or not remains to be seen – I’m very much a mood reader, and if I’m not in the mood for a particular book it’ll impact my enjoyment of it. But hopefully I will be able to read all these anyway! What about you? What books are on your summer TBR?
