#5OnMyTBR: Summer

#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook  and you can learn more about it here. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.

#5OnMyTBR June 5th: Summer

Maria the Wanted and the Legacy of the Keepers by V. Castro

Genre: Urban Fantasy – Horror
Format: Paperback

It’s the cover here that makes me think of summer – well, it makes me think of heat, with the red and yellow and orange. I’ve been meaning to read this for ages, but I do love having this book on my shelf – the cover is gorgeous, and I love how Maria is so front and centre in colder colours while the background evokes so many different things.

For the Summer by Camille Harte

Genre: Romance – Historical
Format: ebook

It strikes me how wintery the cover looks, yet it’s got iconography I’d still associate with summer – the sun at the top, the camper van and cactus, but the sun almost looks like something you’d seen in a more festive season, and the white against the dark blue backdrop makes the cover feel cold, like the plants are covered in snow. I do wonder if it’s one of those covers that grows in significance as you read? I hope so! Either way, this book looks really fun, about Cat and Will who form a bond during summer, and Cat waits for him to return every year. Looking forward to digging into this!

As Far As You’ll Take Me by Phil Stamper

Genre: Contemporary – Romance
Format: ebook

The cover, the colours, the suitcase all point towards this being a book about a trip, and the the colours and sky definitely give the sense of the season being spring or summer – maybe end of summer, but even if the book isn’t set over summer it feels summery. Something about trips just make you think of sun and heat, even if in this particular case Marty is heading to London, which isn’t exactly the Med, but still!

Treasury of Folklore – Seas and Rivers by Dee Dee Chainey and Willow Winsham

Genre: Non-Fiction – History – Folklore
Format: ebook

There’s something about the heat of summer that makes the sound of dipping in a river or the sea sound so appealing, but who knows what might be lurking in there? This book sounds like the perfect way to arm yourself before taking a dive, and feels fitting to read during warmer months!

Wild Fires by Sophie Jai

Genre: Contemporary – Historical
Format: ebook

Not having read this yet, I’m assuming it’s either told in parallel or we get enough of the MC’s family past it’s duel timeline? We shall see. No idea if this is set during summer, but the cover and the striking title are both things I kind of link with summer, when fires are more likely to start and rage out of control.

Bonus

Indulge me for a second, because there’s another book I’d like to mention while we’re on this topic, and though it’s technically not on my TBR, I figured it’s worth including here, and it’s coming out July 1st, with proceeds going to RNLI, a lifeboat charity here in the UK

Sand, Salt, Blood Edited By…Me!

Yep, this one is edited by me! I’m really proud of this little anthology, and the stories are…well, of course I love them, I picked them. So if you’re looking for reasons to stay out of the water during hot day trips to the beach, you might just want to give this a go
