#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook and you can learn more about it here. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.
Ah fairy tales! There are so many great books related to fairy tales out there, this one was quite easy to find books for. These are all ebooks – the first four are on my NetGalley list, while the last one is one I picked up and haven’t yet got around to reading.
#5OnMyTBR June 26th: Fairy Tale
The Fairy Tellers by Nicholas Jubber

Genre: Non-Fiction – History – Folklore
This book sounds so incredibly interesting, examining the history of fairy tales and the people who told them, and with a wider focus than the names we most closely link with fairy tales today. It’s a book that promises to explore beyond the European/Western view of fairy tales, instead tracing the origins to countries beyond, to see where the stories really came from.
White as Witching by Katherine Buel

Genre: Fantasy – Young Adult
This is a Snow White retelling, which isn’t something I’ve seen a load of? It sounds almost like a Fairy Tale version of Hunger Games, with five girls selected each year to ‘live a life of luxury’, though Snow this isn’t the case. I’m looking forward to diving into this one.
The Watkins Book of English Folktales by Neil Philip

Genre: Fantasy – Short Stories
This basically serves as a collection of a variety of English fairy tales, and I’m looking forward to reading these in “the form in which they were first collected”. It’ll be quite interesting to dig in and see how much these stories have changed, especially where some have changed from Folklore to Fairy Tale, or others have been possibly inspired by other folklore/fairy tales at the time. Should make for a pretty interesting read!
At Midnight: 15 Beloved Fairy Tales Reimagined Edited by Dahila Adler

Genre: Fantasy – Short Stories
This one looks really interesting, and I’m keen to see what these authors do with these stories, especially Hafsah Faizal’s take on Little Red Ridding Hood and Stacey Lee’s The Little Matchstick Girl, which has to be one of my favourite fairy tales ever. Some of these names are authors I’ve read before, a number are ones I’ve heard of but haven’t yet read, but most are actually brand new to me, so this should be an enjoyable.

Genre: Fantasy Romance
This book sounds beautiful. It’s the only one here not from NetGalley – instead, I picked this up the moment I heard about it. Beautiful, yes, but also painful in ways, as from the blurb it sounds like Ella has to put up with a lot from her stepmother, and fight for her true happy ever after.
Five books on my TBR relating to, talking about, or retellings of fairy tales. I can’t really tell which one I’m most excited to read. As always, if you have read any of these, I’d love to hear what you thought!
