#5OnMyTBR: Water

#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook  and you can learn more about it here. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.

This one wasn’t the easiest, but it was fun trying to find my TBR books that match up to the theme! Think there’s some pretty interesting ones here, too.

#5OnMyTBR July 3rd: Water

The Old One and the Sea by Lex H. Jones

Genre: Horror – Children’s
Format: Paperback

First, look how cute that cover is! This is one of those books I’ve had for absolutely ages, but haven’t yet carved out the time to read it. I’m really looking forward to it though – it’s a sweet idea, and Lex, as well as being a talented writer, is just a lovely person. I think I’ll try and get to this one some point this summer, as it feels like a summery book.

Smugglers and Smuggling by Trevor May

Genre: Non-Fiction – History
Format: Paperback

I picked this up a fair while ago – I’ve always been intrigued by the history of smuggling, and the various tricks pulled by smugglers. There’s not many places near the coast in the UK which don’t have legends about these, so it’ll be good to get some facts instead.

The Boatman’s Daughter by Andy Davidson

Genre: Fantasy – Horror
Format: ebook

I got this on NetGalley way, way back, and just haven’t got around to it yet. It does sound interesting though, focusing on a young woman who works ferrying contraband for a preacher. The reviews seem a little mixed though, which means it’s probably not going to jump to the top of my TBR for a while.

Skin of the Sea by Natasha Bowen

Genre: Fantasy
Format: ebook

Another “I really need to read this” NetGalley book. Skin of the Sea sounds like a lot of fun, and definitely different, inspired by African mythology which is still something we don’t see nearly enough of compared to more Western mythology retellings. I think this one will be fairly refreshing, and I’m excited to read Bowen’s work.

Treasury of Folklore – Seas and Rivers by Dee Dee Chainey, Willow Winsham

Genre: Non-Fiction – Folklore
Format: ebook

This one should be interesting, especially as it pulls from global folklore rather than concentrating on European. The Mami Wata – also used in Skin of the Sea – are mentioned here, too, so it might be worth considering picking up these last two relatively close together.

Five water themed books on my TBR – what do you think? Have you read any of these – any thoughts on them? Or maybe some of these are on your own TBR, too?
