July 29th: Book Platforms
(Aria)
Prompts: Book blogging certainly isn’t the only online book platform. From booktok to bookstagram to book twitter, there are many different places to post reviews and other bookish content. Do you only blog, or do you have other platforms too? What did you start out doing? What differences do you notice between platforms? Are there similarities?
I mainly blog, but I try to cross-post to Twitter and I’m looking for another social media since that’s, well, getting worse by the day! I’m not a big fan of more visual content, hence why I haven’t really taken to booktok or bookstagram, and I’m a little in awe of those who can really utilize platforms like these and YouTube so well.
So yeah, I stick to blogging, both on here and Divination Hollow Reviews. It’s where I started, many years before I even had this website, under a pseudonym. The main differences I notice between different platforms is, like I mentioned above, the visual aspect. I admit, those are more intimidating to me and for me would take way more time than blogging itself. I know there are ways you can show off covers for digital copies, but I read so many of the books I review digitally, I wouldn’t have the physical copy to show off on Instagram or TikTok or YouTube.
I think there’s further differences in the level of tech involved – for videos, you have to spend time editing, adjusting, matching things up. For photos there’s things like filters to consider, and possibly even props. Again, those who do it well are truly to be admired – there’s so much work that goes into it, especially those who build up a following! Similarities, well, we’re all doing this for similar reasons – a love of books, of sharing, and wanting our thoughts out into the world!
What about you – what different book platforms do you use?
