That Dreaded TBR #50

Wow, number 50! For those good at maths, that’s a total of 250 books I have gone through in my never-ending quest to reduce my TBR. And as today’s starts at 115, excluding any books removed today, it means I’ve got rid of a total of 131 books that were previously on my Goodreads Want to Read shelf. That’s pretty good going, let’s see if I can get that down a little more with today’s books.

The Walking Dead, Vol 1: Days Gone Bye
Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore (Illustrator)

Genre: Horror

This one is going, but not because I don’t have an interest in it – I’ve read it! That is, I’ve read The Walking Dead, Book One, which contains this and Volume 2. The main reason I haven’t continued – cost. Sometimes adaptations really drive up the costs of some graphic novels, and this is one of them. Hopefully will still eventually get to continue this though.

A Game of Thrones #1
Daniel Abraham (Adaptation), George R.R. Martin, Tommy Patterson (Illustrator)

Genre: Fantasy

Interestingly, I’m removing this one for the same reason as The Walking Dead – I read the larger book, ‘Volume One’, which honestly I thought was done so, so well. It’s been a long time since I did read it though, probably around the same time as TWD, and it’s definitely a series I’d like to continue, but alas there are many graphic novels I feel the same way about, so who knows when I’ll be able to. Still, this one is going.

Anne Rice’s The Vampire Lestat: A Graphic Novel
Faye Perozich, Anne Rice, John Bolton (Illustrator), Daerick Gröss (Illustrator)

Genre: Horror

Now this, on the other hand, is not one I’ve yet had the opportunity to read. The books have long been favourites – and ones I really need to reread – and I love seeing books in different formats, whether it’s TV, film, or graphic novel adaptations, so this one is definitely something I want to check out.

Covenant with the Vampire
Jeanne Kalogridis

Genre: Horror

Firstly, I am totally intrigued by that title already. It’s a prequel to Dracula and just reading that I am totally sold. I love books that play around with the classic novel, whether they explore the characters from Dracula, or offer prequels/sequels or complete retellings. Basically, mention Dracula and I am there.

14
Peter Clines

Genre: Horror

I can’t quite put my finger on what it is, but something about this book makes me feel kind of indifferent towards it? There might have been some buzz around the time of its release, and there would have been a reason I added it to my shelf – it doesn’t sound bad, as such, and I might be wrong but the blurb makes the MC sound kind of whiny. There’s too much other excellent horror on my list already.

As always, I’d love to hear from you if you’ve read any of these, and if you agree or disagree with the choices made here.
