#5OnMyTBR: Classics

#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook  and you can learn more about it here. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.

I know I have some Classics on my TBR, but not really that many! I’m not a big Classics reader, though sometimes I will give one a go. I could also sit here and drone on about why I don’t tend to read Classics, but instead I’ll have a look at some on my TBR.

#5OnMyTBR September 18th: Classics

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy: A Trilogy in Four Parts by Douglas Adams

Format: Hardback
Genre: Sci-Fi
Age: Adult

I actually have read The Hitchhiker’s Guide, many, many, many years ago, but I never picked up the others. And as I have a copy of the ‘trilogy’, it now sits on my TBR, waiting for me to get around to rereading the first book and continuing on with the rest.

Les Misérables by Victor Hugo

Format: Paperback
Genre: Historical
Age: Adult

The truth is, I tried to read this – again, many, many, many years ago. And I have kept meaning to pick it up again since. It is one I really do want to read, but when I tried originally I grew so bored, so quick. Still, it’s one of the few books I think with time I might have gained more of an appreciation for.

Gothic Short Stories Edited by David Blair

Format: Paperback
Genre: Horror – Gothic
Age: Adult

This will be a reread, but considering when I picked it up while unpacking I forgot I’d read it and put it in my TBR, I think it’s time to check this one out again. And I feel like since I initially read it, again, my appreciation for the gothic has grown, so I reckon I’ll get something a bit different out of this the second time around.

Fear on 4: Six Chilling BBC Radio 4 Dramas

Format: Audio
Genre: Horror
Age: Adult

Yes I might be bending the idea of ‘classics’ a little, but these dramas and dramatizations are adapted from stories by writers such as Charlotte Perkins Gilman and Bram Stoker, so I definitely think they count.

The Mabinogion Translated by Charlotte Guest

Format: Audio
Genre: Mythology
Age: Adult

I have different versions of The Mabinogion doted around here somewhere, but the specific one I’m looking to read in the near future is the audio version. I’ve tried with one version before and soon found myself struggling, but like previous books noted on this list I think it might have just been the wrong time for me. I’m hoping listening to an audio version will make it a little easier on me.

Are you a Classics reader? Any particular Classics on your TBR or ones you’ve been putting off for a while for whatever reason? Or maybe you’ve read and loved some of these and think I should get to them sooner – as always just let me know in the comments!
