Blogtober Day 3: Top Ten Tuesday – Bookish Goals

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Autumn (and therefore Blogtober) feels like the perfect opportunity to review the reading goals I set in January, and see how I’m doing. So this week’s Top Ten Tuesday – Reading Goals I Still Want to Accomplish Before the End of the Year – seems like the perfect opportunity to do that, along with the additional instruction to update on the goals set in January. So let’s dive in. Don’t forget to check out my original Bookish Goals post too.

Blogtober: Day 1 / Day 2

Bookish Goals for 2023 Update

Reading Challenges

At the start of this year, I picked out three Reading Challenges from Storygraph I wanted to do. On my Bookish Goals post, I noted I wanted to read at least 10 books for each challenge. Well, I’ve think I’ve done pretty well on that –

The Disney Reading Challenge – 15/40
2023 Tarot Reading Challenge – 16/164
Netflix Movies & TV Shows – 12/24

For the first two, I’d love to hit 20 by the end of the year. The Netflix one I’ve put aside for now, as that one doesn’t finish at the end of the year, and I should be able to fairly easily complete it next year.

Read 70 Books

At the time of writing this I’ve just hit 70 books read! I’m pretty happy with that. I think last time I noted I’d read “over 100 books” the last couple of years, but I figure some of them may have been duplicates giving false numbers, as when I checked my reading goal earlier, as I tend to do when I realise I’ve hit it, 2022 was 95 books and 2021 was 94. 2020 was 127 but that was an exceptional year! So, I’ll be pleased if I hit over 90 by the end of the year, and very happy indeed if I somehow manage to hit 100.

Submit, Submit, Submit

So I did submit my novel (never heard back from the agents) but still need to send it out again, and managed to finish my novella, submit it to the open call I’d wanted to, and…need to send it out again. So not done too well on this front, and I didn’t get back to working on short stories either. Too many WIPs and not enough submitting. But maybe I’ll try and get them back out into the world before the end of this year.

Clear non-NetGalley Backlogs

I’ve…not done well at this either! I have started reading more of my non-NetGalley books, but then, well, I discovered the Stuff Your Kindle event. That didn’t help. At all. But OMG so many free books? Absolutely amazing! Definitely keep an eye out for it, especially if you love Romance and Cozy Mystery. You can find out more here.

Log My Physical Books

Yes! Logging these has made such a difference too, as if I’m looking for a particular book or type of book it’s just right there on my spreadsheet. I’ve logged a lot of my books (though as mentioned previously, not all of them, as that’s an impossible task) and I’ve kept up with logging any new ones that I get, too. It’s massively changed my reading, and it helps that I know where the logged books all are, rather than searching through books for a particular book I’m sure I definitely had at some point.

Social Media

Um…well, Twitter just went tits up, didn’t it? I also ended up taking over Divination Hollow social media totally, and it’s been…a lot! I haven’t done well with any of the accounts, but with the way Twitter has gone, it’s kind of felt a bit…pointless? So yeah, this one really fell by the wayside. I am on Bluesky now and I need to get better at posting there, especially links to the blog.

So there we go – a few hits, some misses, and still working towards some things before the end of this year! How are you Bookish Goals going for this year so far?
