#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook and you can learn more about it here. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.
I always find these types of #5OnMyTBR to be the hardest, the ones where you have to really dig into what a book is about to find the answer. But they can also be really interesting, as it forces me to take a strong look at the books I’ve yet to read. So here are 5 books on my TBR involving loss in some way.
#5OnMyTBR November 13th: Loss

Format: Paperback
Genre: Gothic – Historical
Published: February 7th, 2019
Why I Want to Read: This is one of those books I picked up because I spotted the cover, read the blurb, and instantly had to have it. It sounds pretty heart-breaking in parts, which is partly why I’ve kept to the side for so long. The loss to me, here, is the fact the character Fleetwood is pregnant for the fourth time, but has no living child. I definitely need to try and bump this up my TBR.
Agony’s Lodestone by Laura Keating

Format: ebook
Genre: Horror
Published: April 8th, 2023
Why I Want to Read: This is another one I need to get to sooner rather than later. The loss here is the MC’s sister, and it sounds like a book that’s going to deal a lot with grief. Grief can be really effective in horror, and I’m intrigued to see how Keating approaches it.
You Are Not Alone by Cariad Lloyd

Format: ebook
Genre: Self Help
Published: January 19th, 2023
Why I Want to Read: Grief is one of those incredibly difficult things to deal with, and it can be a massive struggle. I want to read this book partly because I want to understand grief better, and I think books have this incredible power to connect us, especially for dealing with topics like this.
Some Kind of Monster by Tim Waggoner

Format: ebook
Genre: Horror
Published: August 25th, 2020
Why I Want to Read: I’ve only read Writing in the Dark and Your Turn to Suffer by Waggoner, and I liked both. I’ll read anything of his I can get my hands on unless I come across something that isn’t good. The summary on Goodreads starts “Throughout her life, Angie has lost loved ones to stupid, meaningless deaths”, so definitely an intriguing premise.
The Witches at the End of the World by Chelsea Iverson

Format: ebook
Genre: Historical Fantasy
Published: October 17th, 2023
Why I Want to Read: It really feels like witches are having A Moment, doesn’t it? And honestly, I’m happy to get my hands on anything witchy. I love how many different genres the witch character is bursting in right now. And this one sounds fascinating, about two sisters who both have magic, but from the looks of the summary, act very differently when they’re driven from their village and their mother killed.
In different ways, I think all of these might be various kinds of hard hitting, and I often find I really have to be in a particular mood to tackle these kinds of books. But I’ll get there eventually. As always, too, if you’ve read any of these and want to share your thoughts, please do!
