#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook and you can learn more about it here. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.
2024 is already shaping up to be a great year for books – for today’s #5OnMyTBR, I’m focusing on NetGalley books coming out in the first few months of 2024, but I do want to mention two other books I’m really excited for, that I currently have on pre-order – The Poisons We Drink, by Bethany Baptiste, and To Gaze Upon Wicked Gods, by Molly X. Chang. Both look absolutely great and I’m really excited to get my hands on them!
#5OnMyTBR January 8th: 2024 Releases
Say You’ll Be My Jaan by Nanina Kumar

Format: ebook
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age: Adult
Expected Publication: January 16th, 2024
Why I Want to Read: This book looks so cute! Fake-engaged so Karthik can get his mother off his back and Meghna will have a date to her best friend’s (the-one-who-got-away) wedding. This grabbed my interest from the moment I saw it!
An Education in Malice by S.T. Gibson

Format: ebook
Genre: Horror – Gothic
Age: Adult
Expected Publication: February 13th, 2024
Why I Want to Read: Dark academia! Vampires! And it’s a sapphic retelling of Carmilla – how could I not want to read this one?
A Botanical Daughter by Noah Medlock

Format: ebook
Genre: Horror – Gothic
Age: Adult
Expected Publication: March 19th, 2024
Why I Want to Read: More queer gothic fiction! This sounds absolutely intriguing and I love even from the summary how there’s a blend of historical and horror going on here.
The Unforgettable Loretta Darling by Katherine Blake

Format: ebook
Genre: Historical
Age: Adult
Expected Publication: June 13th, 2024
Why I Want to Read: This sounds dark and twisty and different – set in Hollywood, 1950s, an aspiring makeup artist takes on predatory Hollywood. I’ve been trying to read more historical fiction recently, and I’m keen to check out something set in a time a bit different than what I usually see floating around.
Where the Dead Wait by Ally Wilkes

Format: ebook
Genre: Horror – Historical – Gothic
Age: Adult
Expected Publication: January 23rd, 2024
Why I Want to Read: More gothic horror fiction! This one is set in the Arctic, and it feels like these kind of terrains are perfect for horror – I have a few ‘polar’ horrors on my TBR, and I want to read more of them, but this one sounds especially good.
I think it’s clear I’m leaning in a bit of a horror mood at the moment, especially more gothic stuff. What’s on your TBR that’s releasing this year? Any books you’re especially looking forward to in 2024?
