#5OnMyTBR: Speculative

#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook  and you can learn more about it here. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.

Ooo, this is a broad one! Speculative covers a huge number of books, and I read a lot of SFF and Horror so I should have plenty of books for this week’s prompts.

From Wikipedia –

#5OnMyTBR January 22nd: Speculative

The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix

Format: Audiobook
Genre: Horror
Age: Adult
Published: April 7th, 2020

Why I Want to Read: I remember reading a lot of good things about this book around the time it came out, and after reading The Final Girl Support Group, I wanted to check out more from Hendrix – so I picked this up via Audible, and it’s been sitting for a fair while now, so I want to try and get to it relatively soon(ish).

Tell Me I’m Worthless by Alison Rumfitt

Format: Paperback
Genre: Horror
Age: Adult
Published: October 28th, 2021

Why I Want to Read: This was one of the first books we talked about on Esbat, but it’s only recently I picked up a copy when I spotted it in Cardiff’s excellent Queer Emporium. It’s been one I’ve wanted to read for a long while, so I’m definitely keeping an eye on challenge prompts to see where this one can fit in.

Welcome to Forever by Nathan Tavares

Format: ebook
Genre: Science Fiction
Age: Adult
Expected Publication: March 5th, 2024

Why I Want to Read: It just sounds intriguing, with a romance at its core and some interesting sounding stuff going on with the characters. As soon as I saw the cover I was grabbed, and reading the summary/blurb just makes me more curious about this one.

Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel

Format: Paperback
Genre: Science Fiction
Age: Adult
Published: September 9th, 2014

Why I Want to Read: People have raved about this for years, and it definitely seems like something I’d appreciate. I’ve left it so long as I did hear it wouldn’t make for great lockdown reading, but maybe it’s something I’ll try now this year.

So Let Them Burn by Kamilah Cole

Format: ebook
Genre: Fantasy
Age: Young Adult
Published: January 16th, 2024

Why I Want to Read: I think this is a really exciting time for both YA and Adult fantasy – there is an excellent crop of fantasy debuts on the horizon, and this one will be out by the time this post goes live – it’s one I am really, incredibly excited to read – queer, Jamaican-inspired, dragons…I can’t wait to dig in.

Are there any spec fic books on your TBR? Any you’re particularly looking forwarding to, or have you read any of these?
