Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
I really enjoyed this theme last year, and I’m excited to do it again! I read quite a lot in 2023, and most of it was by new-to-me authors, so this should be interesting at least.

Top Ten New-to-Me Authors I Discovered in 2023
Erica Ridley
I absolutely loved The Rake Mistake, and now have a few Erica Ridley books on my Kindle waiting for me to dig in. I found her writing to be refreshing, with plenty of humour and tension.
Thomas D. Lee
I am including some debuts here, because they are new to me authors and I seem to have read quite a few debuts last year. Thomas D. Lee is one I will definitely be keeping an eye on – I was totally hooked reading Perilous Times, and can’t wait to see what he comes out with next.
Talia Hibbert
I’m likely late to the game with Talia Hibbert, but in 2023 I listened to the audio of Take a Hint, Dani Brown, and absolutely loved it. I then managed to pick up Get a Life, Chloe Brown, and I’m really looking forward to reading it.

Chloe Liese
Similarly, I absolutely fell in love with Liese’s work through book 6 of the Bergman Brothers, and picked up the first book as soon as I was finished, knowing I absolutely needed to read more.
Sangu Mandanna
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches was a brilliantly heart-warming novel with so much I just adored about it, I really need to go back and read some of Mandanna’s other works, too.

Chuck Tingle
Yeah, another author I was very slow in getting to. But I bloody enjoyed Camp Damascus, and think Tingle has proven himself to be a fantastic horror writer already.
Bea Fitzgerald
I adored Girl, Goddess, Queen and found it a great take of the story of Persephone and Hades. The writing was great and really drew me in, and I’m keen to see more from this particular author!
Hannah F. Whitten
I’ve wanted to check out her work for a while, and I was so pleased to get a copy of The Foxglove King via NetGalley. It was a great Fantasy Romance that hit all the right buttons for me, so I definitely intend to go back and read more of Whitten’s books.
Maria Lewis
I jumped in at book 7 of the Supernatural Sisters series, but was instantly swept up in this Urban Fantasy world, and am very keen to go back and read the whole thing from the beginning.
Bethany Jacobs
This is another debut author but wow, what a debut! These Burning Stars was an absolutely excellent book, and it was exactly the sort of thing I love in sci-fi. I cannot wait to see book 2 of the triology.
So who were your top authors you discovered last year? Any ‘popular’ ones or ones you’d heard a lot about you checked out and enjoyed? Any pleasant surprises?
