Let’s face it, there are way too many books in the world. And right now, there are way too many books on my Goodreads Want to Read shelf, so this is my attempt at rectifying that, by going through the books five at a time and seeing which ones still interest me, and which ones can be removed. It hasn’t gone so bad by this point, as I’ve reduced the books on there by over half. So, let’s how we do this time, shall we.

126. The Oathbreaker’s Shadow
Amy McCulloch

Genre: Fantasy
Published: June 4th, 2013
This is a YA Fantasy that actually sounds kind of intriguing – the idea of knots symbolising promises, and the fact the MC has one but can’t remember the promise, which seems like it’ll cause issues for him. This is one I’d like to try, if I can find a copy.

127. The Pines
Robert Dunbar

Genre: Horror
Published: May 1st, 1989
Hmm…I think I may have heard of this in more recent years, but not quite sure if it’s something I’d enjoy at this point. Still, I do want to try and read some of the older horror stuff, and I don’t think it could hurt to give this one a go.

128. The Fog
James Herbert

Genre: Horror
Published: January 1st, 1975
I’ve read two books by Herbert, one I really liked (The Secret of Crickley Hall) and one I really didn’t (Once…), so my experience of his stuff is very much hit and miss right now. I’ve seen the film for this, and not quite sure if it’ll keep me grabbed through the novel, but I’m willing to try it.

129. 999: Twenty-Nine Original Tales of Horror and Suspense
Edited by Al Sarrantonio

Genre: Horror
Published: January 1st, 1999
I’m intrigued by this now for the same reasons I was likely intrigued by it when I originally added it to my Want to Read shelf – the names involved. I do like anthologies, though my personal preference is for my anthologies that have new names, open subs, rather than ‘big’ names through closed subs – but again, the writers here I’ve read I have liked, so I’d be interested to see what stories they contributed to this.

130. Apathy and Other Small Victories
Paul Neilan

Genre: Humour – Mystery
Published: May 2nd, 2006
This doesn’t quite appeal to me – it sounds like it could possibly be interesting, but something about the summary makes me feel like it’s not going to be something I actually enjoy reading. Don’t think I’d be missing out much by giving this one a miss.
Status: Gone
Don’t feel like I did too well today, with only getting rid of one book, but as a certain supermarket chain says – every little helps! There’s definitely been a strong lean towards horror with this recently, so I must have been in the mood for that back in 2013. Be interesting to see how many of the next lot are horror, and where things change. As always, if you have any read any of these and/or have thoughts on my choices, I’d love to hear from you.
