Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
This was a fun one! It was quite a hard one, too, as I found I don’t have a whole lot of books that reference nature either via the cover or in the title. Not ones I’d put forward as ‘top’, anyway, but I did manage to actually find 10 books I’d recommend, with only a little bit of digging.

Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim

Genre: Fantasy
Age: Young Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: July 6th, 2021
Nature Element: Cranes! (Birds)
I feel like I’ve mentioned this a few times now since I finished reading it, but it really is a great, fun YA fantasy, and I really enjoyed it – plus it’s fresh in my mind, so it was the first book I thought out for this week’s topic!
The Rose Daughter by Maria Lewis

Genre: Urban Fantasy
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: January 1st, 2021
Nature Element: Rose (Flower)
Review
This is part of a series but can also be read as a standalone, so don’t let the fact it’s number 7 put you off, though it has made me really want to go back and read from book 1. The way the rose and nature is incorporated into this book is done really well, and I loved this book’s portrayal of the various paranormal beings.
The Foxglove King by Hannah Whitten

Genre: Fantasy Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: March 7th, 2023
Nature Element: Foxglove (Flowers)
Review
I loved this book, and I’m so eagerly awaiting the next one, which is due out this April. Can’t wait to get my hands on it. This was a book that totally swept me away, and whenever I remember it I smile. The sequel for this won’t be sitting on my shelf for long, that’s for sure.
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

Genre: Fantasy Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: August 23rd, 2022
Nature Element: Trees
Review
This is another book I kind of…talk about whenever I can. And I love this cover, especially the trees in the border and the way the leaves are either clinging or falling/have fallen to the ground. The story inside is as gorgeous as this cover, too.
A House with Good Bones by T. Kingfisher

Genre: Horror
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: March 28th, 2023
Nature Element: Roses (Flowers)
Review
This is such a good Southern Gothic novel, and the roses – as pictured on the cover – play a very important role. The cover itself with the softness of the roses contrasted with the middle image works so well, too.
Becoming Crone by Lydia M. Hawke

Genre: Urban Fantasy
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: June 17th, 2021
Nature Element: Crow (Bird) / Trees
Review
I loved this book! It felt so different and it was great to see a Chosen One with a fully lived life before the events of the novel. Claire was such a great MC, too. There are now 5 books in this series, so I really need to get a move on with reading them!
This Is How You Lose The Time War by Amal El-Mohtar, Max Gladstone

Genre: Sci-Fi
Age: Adult
Format: Audiobook
Published: July 16th, 2019
Nature Element: Birds
Review
Believe the hype with this one! You know how sometimes you can hear loads and loads of good things about a book, and you put it off, because they all love it but what if you don’t and end up disappointed? Yeah, I put this one off because of that, but very quickly I could see why people loved this book so much. It’s honestly such a great one.
The Man With No Shadow by Bonnie Quinn

Genre: Horror
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: January 1st, 2019
Nature Element: Trees
Review
This is another book I absolutely loved, will recommend every chance I get, and…still need to read the rest of the series. But truly, it’s great, and if you like a sort of Urban Legend/folklore style horror, you will want to read this.
Nettle & Bone by T. Kingfisher

Genre: Fantasy Horror
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: April 26th, 2022
Nature Element: Chicken! Trees! Leaves! Nettles!
Review
This fantasy horror was completely and utterly compelling, and I think the first T. Kingfisher book I read? It was a great choice and when this book crosses my mind, it’s only ever in a positive way.
This Poison Heart by Kalynn Bayron

Genre: Fantasy
Age: Young Adult
Format: Hardback
Published: June 29th, 2021
Nature Element: Plants
Review
If you have not yet read any Bayron, go do it now – one of the best YA writers around at the moment, Bayron’s writing is magical. I’ve only read 2 of her books (this and Cinderella is Dead) but I currently have both This Wicked Fate – the sequel to This Poison Heart – and You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight sitting on my TBR, and I’m so excited to get to them.
As always, if you’ve read these I’d love to hear your thoughts – point me to your reviews, or if you add them to your TBR let me know! What are some of your favourite covers and titles with nature things?
