Books I’m Excited to Read

I know I do #5OnMyTBR on Mondays, but with the theme for them I usually find myself picking from my whole TBR (aka almost every book I own), so today I thought I’d specifically highlight just some of the reading challenge books that are up next on my TBR.

Gay Aliens and Queer Folk: How Russell T Davies Changed TV by Emily Garside

Genre: Non-Fiction – Entertainment
Age: Adult
Published: September 21st, 2023
Format: Hardback
Reading Challenge: Disney – STITCH – a book with a blue cover or spine

This was top of my list when I was planning my reading for this year, and it’s the next physical book I have for this challenge. I’m so excited to read this one – I love Davies’ work, and after going to a launch event for this book, I’m convinced I’m going to love Emily Garside’s writing. So keen to get into this one.

Shakespeare by Bill Bryson

Genre: Non-Fiction – History
Age: Adult
Published: January 1st, 2007
Format: Hardback
Reading Challenge: Musicals – Hamilton / My Shot – A book about/featuring a key historical figure

I haven’t read a whole lot of Bryson’s work, but just enough to know I find it engaging and informative, so I’m definitely looking forward to this one – it’s the next physical book on my Musicals Challenge, so shouldn’t be too long before I get started.

The Science of Marvel by Sebastian Alvarado

Genre: Non-Fiction – Science
Age: Adult
Published: April 9th, 2019
Format: Paperback
Reading Challenge: Avengers – Hulk / Science Bro #2 – anything with a realistic science plot, a nonfic science book, something about radiation, OR something with a character who can’t control their temper

I get through ebooks much faster than physical, so the physical books end up sitting on my TBR for longer for these challenges. This one has been on there a good while, and this Avengers themed prompt seems like the perfect opportunity to finally pick it up.

Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé

Genre: Thriller
Age: Young Adult
Published: June 10th, 2021
Format: Paperback & ebook
Reading Challenge: Barbie – Watati – A mystery or thriller book

Somehow, I ended up with this one in two different formats. Luckily for me, it does mean I can basically pick it up when I’m looking for my next read for either one. I’ve been meaning to read this for so long, and I think I’ll actually be able to read it fairly soon.

So You Want to Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo

Genre: Non-Fiction – Race
Age: Adult
Published: January 16th, 2018
Format: Paperback
Reading Challenge: Netflix – Seaspiracy – Changed how you think about something

This one has been popping up on a few TBR lists lately, I think partly because it’s next on my Netflix list but I haven’t made a conscious effort on the Netflix challenge for a fair while. I’m hoping once I’ve cleared more from the other challenges, I can pick this one up again, but I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for other prompts it might fit so I can try and read it sooner.

I’m so excited to read all these books! I feel like non-fiction isn’t something I tend to read a whole lot of, but I’ve been trying to get into more of it more recently, and I’m keen to explore a lot of these topics further. What are some of your TBR books you’re looking forward to reading next?
