#5OnMyTBR: Exploration

#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook  and you can learn more about it here. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.

This was a hard but fun one! I had to stretch ‘exploration’ a little, as otherwise I’d really have very little. But I’ve managed to find 5 books in which the characters are explorers or at least explore something…

#5OnMyTBR March 18th: Exploration

Tell Me I’m Worthless by Alison Rumfitt

Genre: Horror
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: October 28th, 2021

I’m including this because the book revolves around friends exploring an abandoned house. It’s one of those TBR books that’s always at the back of my mind, and I’m really excited for whenever I get to read it.

Defy the Stars by Magan Vernon

Genre: Sci-Fi – Romance
Age: Young Adult
Format: ebook
Published: November 1st, 2011

This one earns its place here through space exploration, as the main character, as explained in the summary, leaves his small town home “for the stars”. It sounds intriguing, and different to what I usually read.

The Cautious Traveller’s Guide to the Wastelands by Sarah Brooks

Genre: Historical Fantasy
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Expected Publication: June 18th, 2024

This one grabbed my interest instantly, with a focus on the Great Trans-Siberian Express carrying passengers across the Wastelands between Beijing and Moscow in the 19th Century. I’ve really been enjoying Historical Fantasy in recent years, and am usually pretty excited at the prospect of reading a new one.

Leif by Celeste Barclay

Genre: Historical Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: March 1st, 2021

Leif, the title character, is a Viking who gets sent on a journey when all he wants to do is rest at home, and honestly who can’t relate to that? This is a four book series and I’m really hoping I enjoy the first one, and I’m excited to read more HR that isn’t Regency or thereabouts (as much as I love Regency!).

The Voyageur by Paul Carlucci

Genre: Historical
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Expected Publication: April 18th, 2024

This one sounds so good, and I’m so excited for it! Definitely something different from my usual reads, and a bit like Leif above, it’s ‘new’ for me in terms of location and time. It’s set on the margins of British North America in the 1830s, and I’m looking forward to diving in.

As always, if you have read any of these or have exploration themed recommendations, I’d love to hear from you. Feel free to point me towards your own #5OnMyTBR posts, too!
