Top Ten Tuesday: Books on my Spring 2024 TBR

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

I really love when it’s time to do the TBR lists for Top Ten Tuesday. They’ve helped keep me on track a few times, and it’s always fun to take a look at what I’ll be reading next. As usual, I’m focusing on my Reading Challenges. At the moment, I still haven’t picked the Netflix one back up, but I’ll hopefully manage to do that in the next few months once I’ve read a few other books on my challenge lists!

Spring 2024 TBR

Gay Aliens and Queer Folk by Emily Garside (Disney Reading Challenge 2024) / Shakespeare by Bill Bryson (Musicals Reading Challenge 2024)

Starting with two of my physical books – I actually have a small trolley now, to keep my physical challenge books on without them getting too much in the way! These two are right at the top, and I’m so looking forward to checking out both of them, looking at two very different British icons. I love Russell T Davies’ work, though haven’t seen all of it, so I expect I’ll finish Gay Aliens with a watch list. And as for Shakespeare, well, I do like Shakespeare, and I’ve liked Bryson’s writing in the past, so I expect I’ll enjoy this.

The Science of Marvel by Sebastian Alvarado (Avengers Challenge!) / Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé (Barbie Reading Challenge)

These are another two physical books that have been sitting on my TBR for too long. I quite like ‘pop science’ books, and The Science of Marvel feels up my street. And as for Ace of Spades, I have it as a physical and an ebook, so I’ve got a choice of formats there. I don’t usually read much thriller, but this one intrigued me.

Whale Fall by Elizabeth O’Connor (Disney Reading Challenge 2024) / Crowned a Traitor by Kate Callaghan (Musicals Reading Challenge 2024)

Switching over to ebooks! Okay, I admit, if I see ‘Wales’ in a book summary, I want to read it. It’s just not a common setting, and it’s always fun to see how my home country is portrayed in different books. I’m looking forward to this historical novel that kicks off when a dead whale washes up on a remote Welsh island, in 1938. Crowned a Traitor is a different kind of novel, a YA Fantasy with fae, demons and more, and seems like it’ll be a fun read.

Den of Spies by RR Jones (Avengers Challenge!) / The Unforgettable Loretta Darling by Katherine Blake (Barbie Reading Challenge)

In theory, Den of Spies sounds like something I’ll really like, but it totally depends on the quality of writing. It doesn’t have great reviews at the moment, but we’ll see how it goes. On the other hand, I can see The Unforgettable Loretta Darling being popular once it gets closer to the publication date, so I’m excited to see what I think about both of these.

The Mabinogion Translated by Charlotte Guest (Disney Reading Challenge 2024) / True Biz by Sara Nović (Avengers Challenge!)

Lastly, two of the audiobooks on my TBR and, again, both challenge books. I have a few copies of The Mabinogion, but I’ve tried a version before and struggled, so I’m hoping I get along with it better in audio! True Biz was one I got to fit the challenge prompt, and it sounded really intriguing, but different to what I’d normally pick up.

What books are on your Spring 2024 TBR? Are you trying to clear a backlog this spring, or focusing on newer releases? Anything in particular you’re looking forward to, or have you read any of these?
