#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook and you can learn more about it here. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.
This was a hard one. Part of the problem is I have specific people I go to when I’m looking for a particular book for my next read – it might be that I’m trying to decide on an audiobook, or I ask my partner because between the two of us we have a vast collection, and he might have what I’m looking for in his. So, often, I ask, then get to reading pretty soon after. But these are four books I’m really looking forward to reading, that have been suggested to me by friends (or my partner. I have not included any of the many, many Star Wars books he keeps trying to get me to read).

Tell Me I’m Worthless by Alison Rumfitt

Genre: Horror – Gothic
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: October 28th, 2021
I am so looking forward to this! It was suggested to me by someone who has very, very good recommendations, and I don’t think I’ve come across a book recommended by them I haven’t liked yet. I also quite enjoy a good Gothic, and this sounds really intriguing.
London: The Concise Biography by Peter Ackroyd

Genre: Non-Fiction – History
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: December 5th, 2000
I find London fascinating. I like Ackroyd’s writing, and my partner picked this up ages ago, passing it to me when he finished. I’m really looking forward to diving in, and have no doubt this biography of such a great city will be great in itself.
The Story of Cardiff by Nick Shepley

Genre: Non-Fiction – History
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: October 1st, 2011
This falls into the same sort of category as the London book, though it’s different as it’s focused on my own home city. Again, my partner picked this one up, but I love Cardiff history and love finding out more, especially as once you dig into it, it’s really interesting – from the original forts, the castle, to the docks and the way the city spread out. Can’t wait to dive into this and find out more about very familiar places.
Coyote Songs by Gabino Iglesias

Genre: Horror
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: October 26th, 2018
To my shame, I haven’t yet read any of Gabino’s novels. Not for any particular reason, I just haven’t yet had the chance, but due to certain things recently I’m not going to go into here, I decided I want to pick up at least one of his books. I’ve heard really good things about this, and a friend suggested I start here.
Little Star by John Ajvide Lindqvist

Genre: Horror – Thriller
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: January 1st, 2010
This is a very recent recommendation given to my by a friend who thinks I’d totally love this one, and I admit, from what’s been said, yes, I am super excited for it. All the little hints and suggestions make me feel like I will like it, and I haven’t read anything else by this author, despite loving the film of Let the Right One In. Maybe if I enjoy this I’ll pick that up next.
If you’ve read any of these or have recommendations you’d like to share, I’d love to hear your thoughts, as always. Are there books on your TBR you’re particularly looking forward to because of who recommended it?
