#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook and you can learn more about it here. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.
This was an interesting one. I think ‘adventurous’ might be one of those themes that means different things to different people, so it was almost hard to pinpoint the specific books I wanted to highlight. I tried to go for ones which specifically have a character going on some sort of adventure. I initially started by looking at my Reading Challenge books, but could only find one on there I thought fit the prompt nicely.
#5OnMyTBR April 29th: Adventurous
Doctor Who: Time Lord Victorious: The Knight, The Fool and The Dead by Steve Cole

Genre: Sci-Fi
Age: Adult
Format: Hardback
Published: October 1st, 2020
Why I Want to Read: Anything to do with The Doctor is going to involve some sort of adventure. This is a book I actually pre-ordered, before I got…a little confused with the whole Time Lord Victorious thing. Still, it’s The Doctor, and any time spent with them is worth it, so I’m looking forward to finally opening this one.

Genre: Fantasy
Age: Adult
Format: Audio – Dramatization
Published: September 5th, 2013
Why I Want to Read: I really loved Neverwhere when I originally read it, and sometimes revisiting a book in a different medium can be really interesting. I seem to lean towards Gaiman a lot for this, and this cast looks absolutely fantastic. The adventure here is about uncovering what is under London, and the characters who live in London Below.
Fear Ground by Jennifer Killick

Genre: Horror
Age: Middle Grade
Format: Paperback
Published: September 1st, 2022
Why I Want to Read: A lot of MG provides adventure of some sort, and there was enough in Dread Wood I think it’s safe to assume Fear Ground will be adventurous, too, especially for the main characters. I really did enjoy Dread Wood, and was excited about the sequel – and now there are 5 in total in the series! have some catching up to do.
Alice in the Land of Clovers by B. A. Lovejoy

Genre: Fantasy Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: November 29th, 2021
Why I Want to Read: Any retelling, reimagining, or book inspired by Alice’s adventures in Wonderland is going to have some element of adventure, purely by having Alice go into Wonderland. This seems like an interesting take on it, too, introducing a romance between Alice and, um, I think the sons of the White Rabbit? Sounds like an intriguing take on it.
Saints of Storm and Sorrow by Gabriella Buba

Genre: Fantasy
Age: YA
Format: ebook
Expected Publication: June 25th, 2024
Why I Want to Read: This is one of the newest books to my TBR, and I’m so excited for this! An adventure indeed, in this Filipino-inspired fantasy that caught my eye with the cover, then the words “bisexual nun hiding a goddess-given gift”. How could I resist? And how is that not a brilliant set up for what looks to be a wonderful adventure?
Have you read any of these? Or maybe you have these on your TBR? What would be your recommendations for ‘adventurous’ books?
