I feel like I’m back in the rhythm of these, and it’s a great ongoing thing to dip in and out of. I’m definitely seeing the ‘want to read’ shelf come down, though very gradually, but I still find it interesting to see what sort of books I wanted to read back over ten years ago now. I don’t really add books to this shelf on Goodreads anymore, as I am trying to avoid adding to it, but I actually doubt I’ll ever hit the end on it. Still, even taking the odd book off here and there is making me feel a little better about the overall state of it!

141. The Green Man: Tales from the Mythic Forest
Edited by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling

Genre: Fantasy
Published: May 27th, 2002
It feels like The Green Man is a figure that comes in and out of popularity. I think at the time I added this to the shelf I was a bit of an anthology kick, and I definitely liked Datlow as an editor, so it doesn’t surprise me to see this here. It’s an intriguing idea for an anthology, and not one I’ve seen done much in recent years, so I’m still interested in this

I wonder if there was something specific I read around this time that led me to these anthologies. There must have been something for to me to stumble across these, and they’re definitely ones I still want to read, especially as I do quite like different takes on fairy tales.

143. Magic for Beginners
Kelly Link

Genre: Speculative Fiction

I find single author collections a bit harder than anthologies – with anthologies, if you’re not keen on a particular story, at least a different author might offer something you do like. With single author, you’re kind of ‘locked in’. They’re definitely something I lean more towards if I’ve read the author before or have some level of interest in their work. This one doesn’t appeal right now.

145. Pyres
Derek Nikitas

Genre: Mystery
Published: October 16th, 2007
Unfortunately there’s nothing in this blurb that really grabs my attention. I’m quite a hard sell when it comes to mystery/crime anyway, unless there’s some kind of supernatural element, so I don’t think I’d particularly enjoy this one.

146. The Dragonbone Chair
Tad Williams

Genre: Fantasy
Published: October 25ht, 1988
This could well be a great fantasy series, but at this point I’m reluctant to start older series’ without at least getting through some of those I’m partway through. This might be one I find my way back to eventually, but it’ll likely be a long time away – I want to give both Wheel of Time and Witcher a chance, first.

As always, I’d love to hear if you’ve read any of these, or if you agree or disagree with the choices I’ve made. I think removing three is really good progress, though I am still looking out to get copies of the older books on Want to Read to try and reduce it even more!
