#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook and you can learn more about it here. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.
Poetry isn’t often my cup of tea – it’s not something I seek out, and a poetry book has to really catch my eye for it to interest me. Hence, I actually don’t think I have 5 poetry books on my TBR. I do have 4 however, and they all look really good, and they’re all ones I’m pretty excited for.
#5OnMyTBR May 20th: Poetry
anOther Mythology by Maxwell I. Gold

Genre: Horror
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: September 4th, 2023
Why I Want to Read: Horror poetry is something that does tend to grab my attention, throw in the idea of queer mythology reimaginings and I am sold. It also helps that the cover for this is particularly great!

Genre: Sci-Fi
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: April 2nd, 2024
Why I Want to Read: Because this sounds incredibly unique – sci-fi poetry that tells the story of a colony ark, Calypso, and a war between engineers and botanists. And, again, it has a really beautiful cover!
With Love, Grief and Fury by Salena Godden

Genre: Poetry
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: July 16th, 2024
Why I Want to Read: I think once you’ve been touched deeply by grief – whether due to death or other causes – it becomes hard to shake off. It’s like a shadow; on some days it’s big and all encompassing, and on others you barely notice it, but it’s never far. I think my personal grief due me to this initially, and I’m intrigued by what I might find between its pages.
Wicked Enchantment: Selected Poems by Wanda Coleman

Genre: Poetry
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: April 7th, 2020
Why I Want to Read: This might be the longest book on this list – it contains 130 poems, collected across four decades of work by Coleman. Although I’ve heard of Coleman, I’m admittedly not familiar with her work, so this book seemed like a good opportunity to discover it.
Are you a poetry fan? Or, like me, do you tend to be drawn to fairly specific types of poetry? Any recommendations? As always, I’d love to hear from you!
