#5OnMyTBR: Beach Read

#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook  and you can learn more about it here. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.

This was a fun one! I find the term ‘Beach Read’ quite interesting – I don’t think I often pick up books that others would deem beach reads, as such, but it’s definitely one of those prompts that can be interpreted in different ways! Some of these aren’t as ‘fluffy’ as the term would normally indicate, but for me, they’re the kind of books I’d want to read at a poolside or on the beach!

#5OnMyTBR June 17th: Beach Read

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Genre: Historical
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: March 5th, 2019

Why I Want to Read: Yeah, I still haven’t read this, but I really want to and it is on one of my reading challenges. It’s probably not as ‘fluffy’ as most would consider beach reads to be, but something about it makes me think of summer and it feels like a great holiday read.

Honey & Spide by Bolu Babalola

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age: Adult
Format: Audiobook
Published: July 5th, 2022

Why I Want to Read: The typical ‘beach read’ book tends to have bright, light colours, right? But for me this cover captures the essence of summer so brilliantly with the reds, pinks, yellows. It screams heat! Which is very fitting for a book called Honey & Spice. Again, I’m not expecting this to be ‘fluffy’, but it sounds like another excellent summer read.

Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: November 5th, 2019

Why I Want to Read: I read Take a Hint first, and loved it, and feel like these series definitely lends itself to the relaxing, poolside/beach read vibe. This one especially with Chloe’s bucket list feels like the kind of stuff you want to do over summer – drunken nights out, ride a motorcycle, camping are all things that aren’t restricted to summer, but feel like they have extra specialness during the summer months, right?

Only When It’s Us by Chloe Liese

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: March 27th, 2020

Why I Want to Read: I feel like this pops up alongside Get a Life quite often, and for similar reasons – it’s contemporary romance where I read a later book in the series and decided to go back to book 1, and I’ve had it for too long now without actually getting to it. Either way, this feels like a great summer book that’ll likely feel fairly fluffy, and an easy read while relaxing.

The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst

Genre: Fantasy – Romance – Cozy
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Expected Publication: July 9th, 2024

Why I Want to Read: The recent rise of both fantasy romance and cozy fantasy means there’s more options for fantasy ‘beach reads’ than ever before! This one looks so cute, and though these genres – like all those mentioned above! – can tackle not-fluffy themes, they do so in a way that keeps things relatively light, making them perfect for enjoying on a nice, sunny day.

As always, if you have read any of these I’d love to hear from you, and hear your thoughts on these books!
