2024 Reading Challenges Update #7

I feel like I really have no clue how I’ve done this month – it feels like I’ve made some progress, but my current paperback is taking a fairly long time to read! I blame it on longer chapters. I feel like I can’t read a 20 – 30 page chapter, but give me 5 – 10 page chapters and I’ll easily read 20 to 30 pages. Odd, isn’t it? So, let’s see how I really did over the last month!

2024 Reading Challenges / Update #1 / Update #2 / Update #3 / Update #4 / Update #5 / Update #6

Goal: 47/70 (+6)

Disney Reading Challenge 2024
14/40 (+3) Prompts Completed

Read

Dory – I suffer from short term memory loss – a book that will be unforgettable to you

I really enjoyed Gill Lewis’ A Street Dog Named Pup, but it’s a pretty heart-breaking book! Great for younger readers who’ll be able to handle the kind of themes it raises, but this dog book definitely captured my heart.

Grumpy – Angel, ha! She’s a female! And all females is poison! They’re full of wicked wiles! – a book with an evil female character

There’s a trio of ‘evil’ characters in Disney’s The Wicked Ones – Cinderella’s stepsisters are the focus of this book, though this portrayal of them gives them much more of a sympathetic look. Ultimately, the true evil character here is Cinderella’s dreaded stepmother, Lady Tremaine.

Mike Wazowski – I wasn’t scared. I have allergies – a scary book

Fear on 4 was a great collection of fun, spooky stories, and definitely one I’d recommend for horror lovers. Horror makes for excellent audiobooks and podcasts, and these productions are no exception.

Books to Read: The First Days, Princess Broken, Four Eids and a Funeral

Musicals Reading Challenge 2024
12/24 (+1) Prompts Completed

Currently Reading

Moulin Rouge – Come What May – Forbidden Love

I’m not really far into Sapphires and Secrets, but I’m enjoying it so far! I haven’t touched mafia romance before now, and I don’t read a lot of romantic suspense, but so far this one is holding my attention.

Read

Annie – Sandy – Featuring a dog

This was the original prompt I read A Street Dog Named Pup for, and added it to the Disney challenge once I finished. Again, good book, but very sad at times!

Books to Read: Shakespeare, Time Lord Victorious: The Knight, the Fool and the Dead, Keep A’Livin’

Avengers Challenge!
6/6, 3/5 Bonus (+1) Prompts Completed

Currently Reading

Ant-Man – Comedy, magicians, or shape-shifting

I’m still currently reading this one – bit of a long read, but I am enjoying A Radical Act of Free Magic.

Read

A Better World was my last digital book for this challenge. It was okay, not a bad book, but it felt like it dragged a fair bit.

Books to Read: Darkness on the Edge of Town

Barbie Reading Challenge
10/17 (+1) Prompts Completed

Currently Reading

BARBIE – A book that has the letters B-A-R-B-I-E in it! There needs to be two B’s

Oh, I struggled with this one, then it randomly clicked one day that I had the perfect audiobook for this, and one I’d been meaning to read for a while. So, I’m currently listening to The Ballard of Songbirds and Snakes, and do I love returning to this series. Suzanne Collins has done a fantastic job with this follow-up to The Hunger Games, and I look forward to watching the film when I’ve finished reading, too.

Read

Butterflies – Baby you’re my butterfly on my daisy – a book that has butterflies or flowers on the cover

The Lost Girls of Foxfield Hall was an okay read – I did feel like it dragged a bit, and was fairly repetitive, but I can definitely see why other readers might enjoy it more. I really do like that cover though, but it does kind of mis advertise it as a ‘WW2 historical fiction’ – the novel is actually in two timelines, the present day and the past, rather than it being just historical fiction.

Books to Read: Ace of Spades, A Hunger Like No Other, Love That Journey for Me

Netflix Movies & TV Shows
13/24 (0) Prompts Completed

Yeah, still no movement on this one, however we are getting there! The Avengers challenge is near enough complete, along with the Barbie one, and the Disney one I’ve read more than the Netflix one now, so I’m hopefully I can at least clear some of these before the end of this year!

Books to Read: So You Want to Talk About Race, Daisy Jones & The Six, Hexed

A decent month for reading, I think, though not as good as June when I read 8 books! Still, 6 isn’t bad going, especially as, like I mentioned, my current paperback is pretty lengthy. As is Songbirds and Snakes, so that’s taking me a while to get through, too. But I’m on track for my overall reading goal, and for at least completing some of these challenges this year, so I’m pretty happy with that! How are your reading goals going at the moment? Are you doing any challenges?
