My previous Blogtobers have included Goodreads Most Popular Horror, going through to see which books I’ve read, am interested in, maybe never heard of or just aren’t interested in at all, and I really enjoyed doing it. I did finish that list, but last year the ‘100 New Horror Recommendations for (Nearly) Every Kind of Reader‘ list caught my eye, and I bookmarked it as I thought it would be fun to go through in a similar way to the Most Popular Horror. So, let’s take a look at these horror recommendations, shall we?
These are separated into categories/trends, so I’m going to keep these to one post per category. I’m also going to specify if I have the book on my TBR.

Parenting is the most terrifying thing I can think of
This is an interesting starting point – I don’t feel like I’ve read much ‘parenting horror’ over the last few years, but it’s for sure an area that intrigues me! There’s 8 books here, so there’ll be 4 in this post and the rest in the next.

I used to be a huge AHS fan and obsessively follow it, but the last few seasons have bypassed me (I think the last one I watched was the 80s summer camp one?). I didn’t realise they’d adapted a season from this until I saw the reviews. I’m intrigued by the premise for this, especially in light of the recent issues and discussions around reproductive care and the use of IVF, and knowing people who have gone through their own IVF journeys. It sounds like a unique premise, and I’m drawn to this.

Oh this sounds compelling as hell. Women trying to reclaim their lives from motherhood, while their children literally start draining adults dry. I need this.
What Kind of Mother

I actually thought I had this one, but turns out I don’t! But yes, I very much want to read this one. It pretty much grabbed my interest from the moment I saw it, and that title is so enticing.
A Good House for Children

Clearly, these kind of books are passing me by – something I’ll definitely have to try and rectify. I love books that give us modern gothic tales, and this one sounds like it might have echoes of The Turn of the Screw, with the story of Lydia who works as a live-in nanny in the house, and both characters wrestling with trying to protect the children in their care. I’d really like to check this one out.
So, I haven’t read any of the first four, and I’m sure there’s absolutely plenty more on the list I haven’t read, but I wonder if it’s because a lot tend to get put in mystery/thriller category, over horror? Need to start looking into mystery/thriller more, I think. But ‘parenting’ is definitely an interesting area of horror that now I’m aware of it, I’d really love to explore more, so hopefully I can dig into these sooner rather than later!
