We did it! We made it through January! Phew – some days it really felt like we’d never get there. How did your January go? Did you read as much as you would have liked? I’m not where I’d want to be reading-wise, but that’s okay – there was quite a lot going on in January, but fingers crossed I can get back on track once we get into Feb!

Bonnie & Clyde – The World Will Remember Me – Outlaws
For this one, my first ebook of the year, I picked Seven Mercies, the conclusion to the Seven Devils duology. I loved it, which is no surprise as I adored the first book.
Kiss Me, Kate – Too Darn Hot – Set during summer OR makes you think of summer/heat
This was the first physical book I read for this year – Rise to the Sun by Leah Johnson. Johnson once again proves her writing skills, and I loved this story of two young girls finding their way over the course of a music festival.

BLACK-ISH – A book where the main character is a POC
Ace of Spades has been on my TBR for a long while now, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to finally read it. I’m really enjoying it, too – it’s a very gripping read.
AGATHA All ALONG – A sequel or the next book in a series
I knew I needed to read Garth Marenghi’s Incarcerat for this – the sequel to TerrorTome. And just like TerrorTome, I’ve gone for the audio version. It works so, so well.

FRIENDS – A book set in New York
I started this challenge with The Queen of Steeplechase Park, which left me with very mixed feelings! I enjoyed some parts of the book, but mostly found it a bit too much on the bleak side for me.

Books to Read: The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires, The Girl With No Reflection, Scales and Sensibility

Medicine – Saving lives – or doing harm?
I really like the scope of this challenge, and I’m starting with a book that explores mental illness. So far, so good – Madness is a really intriguing book from psychiatrist Dr Sean Baumann, someone who seems to deeply understand that aspects of science and medicine especially aren’t always clearcut.

Books to Read: The Celts: Search for a Civilization, Under the Banner of Heaven, Uncontrollable Women

I haven’t actually made a start on this one yet, but I didn’t expect to start all challenges in January. This is one I’m definitely excited for though, and it feels fitting to start on this challenge closer to Valentine’s Day.
Books to Read: Get a Life, Chloe Brown, In Memoriam, Cinder Ella

I expect I’ll get started with this one within a few weeks – I’m hoping to find a couple of audiobooks for this especially, too, alongside the ebook and physical books I have lined up for it. I’m really excited for this challenge.

And finally, the award for the lonest Reading Challenge…yeah, I’ve had this sitting there for a bit too long, but I’m using some of the books I have here for other challenges and I am hoping that I can make progress on this one, maybe a bit later in the year. If I don’t, however, I might have to rethink how I’m doing these challenges as a whole completely!
Books to Read: So You Want to Talk About Race, Daisy Jones & The Six, All That Remains
And there we have the first update of the year! Like I said, it was a bit of a slow start this year, but I’m hoping as things settle back down now my reading can pick up. I hope you’ve had a good reading start to your 2025.
