Book Review: Cider Ella by S.T. Lynn

Format: ebook
Published: June 24th, 2016
Age: Adult
Genre: Fantasy – Romance

Rating: 4/5 Stars

This was a sweet take on Cinderella, featuring Ella, a trans woman who is forced to go by her deadname and serve her stepmother and sisters following her father’s death. I really liked Ella as a character, and I liked the way the relationship formed between her and the princess. It’s quite a short book, and felt like it could have done with being a bit longer and more fleshed out, with maybe more deeply incorporating some elements of the fairy tale.

However, on the whole I found this to be a delightful read, with a character I really liked following. There are some uncomfortable scenes with Ella’s family and their transphobia, which work well in the story, but I liked how the other characters Ella comes into contact with accepted her for who she is. It was a really enjoyable read.
