Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
This is such an interesting topic for this week – I’d struggle to think of ten for this, and I’m not putting myself through the pain of going back to check, but I’ll see how many I can think of.
Ways in Which My Blogging/Review Style Has Changed Over Time (submitted by Susan @ Bloggin’ ’bout Books)
It’s More Structured
This is a big one for me – it took me a while to get into a ‘groove’ with writing for this blog, and often I found myself throwing up whatever, whenever. But as I started to do weekly memes, a structure made sense, and between these memes and knowing for this day I need to do that, it’s really helped me keep things focused and plan more.
ARC Reviews
When I first started, like many new bloggers out there I didn’t have arcs – I didn’t know how to get them or have any contacts or even know, really, what this NetGalley was that everyone was on about. Now, I have so many arcs (oops) I’m not quite sure how I’ll get through them all, but I still remember the excitement of getting my first ones and the ability to read books prior to publication.
I Pay Less Attention to Stats
I used check my stats regularly, updating them on NetGalley and comparing them to the previous months. I don’t do that anymore. I occasionally dip in, but pushing it away from my mind means I’m more pleasantly surprised than disappointed by them.
Reviews
I think my reviews are better – I hope they are, anyway! They’re definitely more me – I remember in the early days, trying to match what I saw others doing, and it can take a while to really get more natural with it. Luckily, I was getting a lot of practice!
Reading Habits
My reading habits have definitely changed since I started blogging. I read a lot more than I used to, and I track things better, as well as working to Reading Challenges which helps my reading stay a bit more focused. When I first started, I barely touched my Kindle, having only a handful of books on there. Then as I did start getting more arcs, I realised my very old device wasn’t going to last much longer. I got a new one, and with the books piling up on there, I started using it a lot more. Blogging helped me read more electronically, and I fell in love with the ability to do so.
What are some of the ways your style has changed? I found this quite hard, but as stated, I didn’t go back to look at older pieces – did you? What stood out to you most?
