Monday Moods: Summer

Monday Moods is a weekly bookish meme created and hosted by Unwrapping Words (aka, me!). The premise is simple: every week, there’s a new ‘mood’, ranging from tropes to genres or actual moods (happy, sad, etc). On a Monday, feel free to post about books on your TBR, books you’d recommend, or a mix – whatever you like – that fits the ‘mood’ prompt. And of course, you can use your own if you’re not fussed on a particular one!

Ah, summer! What sort of books do you enjoy reading over the summer? I admit, I haven’t done strict ‘seasonal’ reading for a long time, but there are some books on my TBR that I’m looking forward to reading during the longer days when the weather is warm – for the whole of the 3 days of summer we get here in the UK, anyway.

This Week, I’m in the Mood For…
Summer

Match Me If You Can
Swati Hegde

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: June 4th, 2024

I Want to Read This Because friends to lovers, set in Mumbai, with a FMC who needs to set up a coworker to get a new matchmaking column. What more could you want? This definitely feels like a summer read, too – that cover makes me think of summer nights.

Honey & Spice
Bolu Babalola

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age: Adult
Format: Audiobook
Published: July 5th, 2022

I Want to Read This Because it feels like an excellent summer read – for starters, it feels like it’ll be sizzling. The cover is full of warm, summer tones, especially the reds and oranges. I just think outside of, say, Christmas romances, contemporary romances generally make for excellent summer reads, and something with this sort of title and premise feels like it’ll be hot.

You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight
Kalynn Bayron

Genre: Horror
Age: Young Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: June 20th, 2023

I Want to Read This Because summer is also an excellent time for horror, especially horror set at a summer camp! Bayron is an excellent writer, and by this point I’ll happily read anything she puts out.

Time & Tide
Mindy Paige

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: August 22nd, 2023

I Want to Read This Because this is enemies to lovers set at a hotel in a tropical paradise – it sounds like an ideal summer read!

For the Summer
Camille Harte

Genre: Historical Romance
Age: Young Adult
Format: ebook
Published: September 12th, 2021

I Want to Read This Because even though it pains me to see the 80s and 90s listed as ‘historical’, it is a reminder of the trend for stories set in those eras and it’s fun to see younger folks have an interest in them. I’m excited to see these two decades portrayed here, as the backdrop to a friends to lovers story.

What books do you enjoy reading over summer? Any on your TBR you’re really looking forward to?
