Top Ten Tuesday: Non-Bookish Freebie

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

As this week is a non-bookish freebie, I thought I’d turn to my current TV obsession. After missing the boat with Grey’s Anatomy when it first came out, I recently picked it up from season 1, and I am hooked. Completely and utterly. I’m currently on season 7, so I thought I’d do a Top Ten (though, in reality, eight) Grey’s Anatomy moments!

Spoilers Ahead!
(For Seasons 1 – 7)

Top Eight Grey’s Anatomy Moments

Addison’s Introduction
Episode 1.09

The gasp I gasped with her first lines! I adore Addison – she’s just incredibly iconic, and I blame her for the fact I can’t stop watching Private Practice! There was a point where I thought I’d hate her, but I just absolutely couldn’t. Yes, she got in the way of Meredith and Derek, but Kate Walsh has such incredible presence it’s hard to take my eyes off her.

The Bomb!!!
Episodes 2.16/2.17

I can’t quite remember at what point Meredith grabs the bomb, but I remember the dread that hit when we realised Meredith was now holding the bomb. Even though because I started Station 19 before Grey’s I know she gets out of it fine, but that’s the beauty of this show – it still keeps me on edge! And when it exploded? Brilliant TV.

Bailey Giving Birth
Episode 2.17

And while there was a bomb and her husband was being operated on, Bailey had no one except George around when she gave birth. This was another tense series of events – especially as, thanks to Station 19, I knew Bailey did not end up with Tucker, so I spent most of this time convinced he was about to die!

Meredith Drowning (And Rescue!)
Episode 3.15/3.16

The way my jaw dropped when she went in the water! The rescue! Poor Derek. Again, I knew Meredith would make it out of this one, but the way the tension makes me completely forget that fact. Those afterlife scenes, too!

Izzie Seeing A Ghost…and Realising Why
Episode 5.13

The thing I really liked about this storyline was the way it was all set up – the fact that with Meredith’s drowning we get shown what seems to be the afterlife in this world, so we’re already primed to believe Denny’s ghost is wandering the halls. I love when non-paranormal shows lean into the supernatural, but then it raised the question – is Izzie seeing Denny’s ghost because she’s close to death? As it turned out, it wasn’t Denny’s ghost, as such, but the way the show built it up means I’ll always love it.

The Post-It Wedding
Episode 5.24

Tears were shed! This scene was so gorgeous, I adored it, and it felt so, so right for these two!

“Double 0…7…Oh, God”
Episode 5.24

NO PICTURE IT’S TOO PAINFUL!

I had JUST warmed up to George. I spent so long hating the guy, finding him whiny and frustrating, and in all fairness, the writers knew what they were doing – he grew up. He was doing well. It was bad enough thinking he’d rushed off to join the army, but then with this reveal comes the crashing realisation that the last things George heard his co-workers say about him was all about how quickly he’d die in the military. And the fact he saved a woman. And…so much. And excellent performances all around. This was so impactful, mixed in with the tension over Izzie. I can’t imagine what it must have been like to watch this as it was airing and have to wait for the next season to find out what happened!

The Shooting
Episode 6.23/6.24

These two episodes are full of moments that had me holding my breath, gasping, grabbing my partner’s hand. I admit, I started this after he’d gone to bed, but not far into episode 23 and wait for the following evening to watch it together. It was too tense! And after the whole thing with George…and it’s another interesting thing about binging vs watching as it airs, again there’s the tension of not knowing what’ll happen, and waiting, but with binging, all these heart-breaking moments come so close together. Anyway! I think what particularly stands out for me with these episodes is the moment on the bridge, as Derek almost – almost – talks the shooter down. After that, it’s Yang performing the surgery. These writers have no mercy.

So, there we go. Do you watch Grey’s Anatomy? What are some of your favourite moments from the show? Or let me know about your own favourite TV show!
