Monday Moods: Friendship(s)

Monday Moods is a weekly bookish meme created and hosted by Unwrapping Words (aka, me!). The premise is simple: every week, there’s a new ‘mood’, ranging from tropes to genres or actual moods (happy, sad, etc). On a Monday, feel free to post about books on your TBR, books you’d recommend, or a mix – whatever you like – that fits the ‘mood’ prompt. And of course, you can use your own if you’re not fussed on a particular one!

‘Friendship’ can mean many different things – it can be a positive force, or a toxic one. It can come with found family, or evolve into love. I love when books focus on different forms of friendships, or when a romance has fully fleshed out friends surrounding the ‘main’ couple. Friends can be community, or they can be a catalyst when something bad happens. So, here’s five books on my TBR that in some way involve friendship(s).

This Week, I’m in the Mood For…
Friendship(s)

Tell Me I’m Worthless
Alison Rumfritt

Genre: Gothic Horror
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: October 28th, 2021

I Want to Read This Because from my understanding, this book looks at the slightly darker, more toxic side of female friendships, and those are the kind of books I want to read more of! I’ve also just heard a ton of excellent stuff about this, and it’s next up on my TBR so I’ll actually be reading it really soon.

Fear Ground
Jennifer Killick

Genre: Horror Adventure
Age: Middle Grade
Format: Paperback
Published: September 1st, 2022

I Want to Read This Because at the other end of the horror spectrum, horror books featuring pre/early teen characters is full of friendship groups, and sometimes it’s fun to dip into something with a group of friends overcoming the horror together. I really enjoyed Dread Wood – it feels like reading old Goosebumps – so I’m keen to read this one, too!

First to Fall
Laney Hatcher

Genre: Historical Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: May 24th, 2022

I Want to Read This Because maybe, just maybe, I tend to prefer enemies/rivals to lovers, but I put that down to not having yet come across a really good, solid friends to lovers. I remain hopeful, and this book sounds really cute! Plus, Fake Betrothal! And fake dating (etc) is a trope I absolutely adore.

The Things We Do to Our Friends
Heather Darwent

Genre: Dark Academia – Thriller
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: January 10th, 2023

I Want to Read This Because more toxic friendships! The synopsis sounds enthralling, and I can almost feel myself sinking into this before I’ve even read it. It’s not my usual kind of read, but it really grabbed my eye!

Love’s Misfiring Magic
Heather Silvio

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: June 6th, 2022

I Want to Read This Because more friends to lovers! Again, trying to read more of these books to see if it is a trope I can grow to love. This sounds cute, but it’s completely dependent on how the ‘in love with my best friend’ MMC is written. Looking forward to seeing how it’s all handled!

As always, if you have recommendations or want to share the books on your TBR you’re looking forward, feel free to comment or share your own posts!
