2026 Reading Challenges Update #2

How did your February go? For those outside the UK, we’re currently in the midst of a rainy streak. Some parts have had rain fall every day since 2025. Not the best start to the year, but hopefully as we enter March and spring arrives (please, spring, we need you!) things will ease up. As for reading, I don’t think I’ve done too badly so far – things are going well, and I’m progressing across all my challenges.

Read

Written by a trans person of colour

I finished my read of Sorrowland. This was an audiobook, and I definitely recommend it – it’s a really intriguing, gothic exploration of race and gender in the USA. The audiobook was narrated wonderfully, too.

Books to Read: Duma Key, You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight, All the Hearts You Eat

Read

1950s: High Society – True Love

Magic Uncorked was a sweet first book in a series, that focuses on a group of middle age women, starting with Libbie. It’s light and fluffy, and a series I’ll absolutely continue with.

1960s: West Side Story – Tonight – Star-Crossed Lovers or Forbidden Love or Feuding Families

No Rest for the Wicked was fantastic – I’m only two books in, but if the books remain as enjoyable as these two, this is quickly going to become one of my all time favourite series. It’s really making me fall in love with paranormal romance all over again.

Books to Read: London: The Biography, Ahsoka, The Making of Horror Movies

Currently Reading

Non Fiction (any)

It was very easy to pick a book out for this – I’ve been itching to read Bi: The Hidden Culture, History, and Science of Bisexuality for a while, so it jumped immediately to mind with this prompt. I’m really enjoying it, too – some incredibly interesting stuff is covered.

Fantasy

My current audiobook is Silver Under Nightfall, which I’m very much enjoying. I really like vampires, and love checking out new vampire books, and Chupeco does something really different and interesting with them here. I’m just over 30% through, and think it’s going to take me a good long while to finish.

Read

Historical (fiction or non fiction)

For this prompt, I went with new historical gothic Spider, Spider. Not the best gothic novel I’ve read, but it was a decent read and I really liked the Victorian London backdrop.

Books to Read: Tell Me I’m Worthless, Oxford Blood, A Thief and a Gentleman

Love Gone Wrong – Doomed lovers, seductive monsters

For this one, I went with Vampires of El Norte, and I’m so glad I did! I’m not really far into it, but so far I’m very much enjoying it, especially with a new-to-me setting. Really hooked, totally invested in seeing what happens next.

Read

Frozen in Fear – Horror set in winter, snow, or extreme cold

I really liked The Hill in the Dark Grove – atmospheric and intriguing, and infused with Welsh folklore. Would recommend!

Books to Read: House of Idyll, The Science of Monsters, Tell Me I’m Worthless

Netflix Movies & TV Shows

Same as last month – no movement on this one quite yet. I’m going to see how the next few months go and maybe change some of the books I’ve currently got for this prompt. Hopefully I can hit a few of these before the end of this year, though!

Books to Read: So You Want to Talk About Race, All That Remains, A Discovery of Witches

I hope your February has gone well and you’ve been able to enjoy some good books. If you have any particular ones you loved, I’d love to hear all about them!
