Let’s Talk Bookish: Reading Seasonally

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme that was originally created and hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books starting in August 2019, and was then cohosted with Dani @ Literary Lion from May 2020 to March 2022. Book Nook Bits has hosted since April 2022.

Prompts: Do you read seasonally? Do you like a beach read in summer, a spooky book in the autumn and holiday themed ones in winter? What’s your favorite season? Do you have any favorite seasonal reads?

I do now – I never really used to, before I joined NetGalley. It might be that I picked up specific seasonally books in the season they matched, but overall it was never something I set out to do until I built up my list of need to read arc books. Now, I do try and plan a bit if it’s a particular season. Last year I read a fair few Christmas books in the run up to the holiday, but realised I’d left it a little too late for the reviews to go up before Christmas, so now I’m planning on trying to read a few Christmas ones at end of October and through November, instead.

I do tend to lean towards spooky reads in autumn and holiday themed ones in winter, though additionally I have been planning more for the events we run at Divination Hollow, or highlighting certain books for particular months. Although I’m sure I’ll have a couple of wintery reads at the start of December, I’ll then look to move towards books for Black History Month in February and Women in Horror month over at Divination Hollow in March.

I think autumn/fall is my favourite season – when it’s not too cold yet, but there’s a chill in the air. I like spring too – both feel like seasons of transition, leading us either into colder or warmer months. As for favourite seasonal reads…not yet! But maybe I’ll have a few by the end of the year.

Are you a seasonal reader? What are some of your favourite seasonal reads?
