Blogtober Day 13: Apocalypse Books

Seeing as it is October, with Halloween coming up, I thought I’d spotlight some of my favourite end of the world themed books.

Zombie Apocalypse

An absolute classic – the zombie apocalypse can take many forms, beyond military/small band of survivors, and these are just some of my favourite examples.

Rot and Ruin by Jonathan Maberry / World War Z by Max Brooks / Allison Hewitt is Trapped by Madeleine Roux

Post-Apocalyptic Worlds

I admit, I love when books take us past the actual events of the apocalypse and place us in this worlds where humans have just learnt to live with the destruction around them. There’s a reason Fallout is one of my favourite games.

Wool by Hugh Howey / I Am Legend by Richard Matheson / Bird Box by Josh Malerman

Biblical

Classic Book of Revelations type stuff, sort of…but these books bring some nice twists to the end of days, or lean quite heavily into the idea of sin.

The Fourth Whore by E.V. Knight / The Armageddon Rag by George R. R. Martin / Your Turn to Suffer by Tim Waggoner

There are, of course, so many different types of apocalypses, from environmental with natural disasters, robotic uprisings, nuclear etc it’s hard to go into them all. So the question remains – what’s your favourite type of end of the world scenario, and what are your book recommendations for these?
