November 4: How Do You Define Your Personal Reading Tastes?
(Jillian @ Jillian the Bookish Butterfly)

Prompts: How would you define your personal reading tastes? What kinds of books do you like to read? How do you pick what books to read next? Do your reading preferences change often?

I think I’d define my reading tastes as…eclectic. I read very broadly, and enjoy switching between various genres. I find if I read too much of one thing I start getting frustrated, especially if a genre is full of similar tropes. But if I take a break, read something different, I can usually tackle the genre again feeling a bit more refreshed.

I like to read anything well written, but my overall tastes lean towards Fantasy. I tend to have a preference for supernatural horror, paranormal romance, etc. Though I do enjoy a good contemporary romance too. I also find I very often really love YA, especially if I want something that’s more of a brisk pace. YA as a whole is so great, tends to be more diverse and can be very varied in all genres. I do also enjoy non-fiction, usually stuff that focuses on history or pop culture.

I’m a bit of a mood reader. I do try and read stuff like arcs prior to release, but often I’ll look for something that matches how I’m feeling. I’ve also been trying to read a little more ‘seasonally’ this year, and find Romances are excellent for this.

My reading preferences changes lightly depending on my mood and what I’ve been reading more recently. In the leadup to Halloween I was trying to read more Horror stuff, and with the arrival of November I find I’m really looking forward to digging into some Christmas Romances.

Tell me – what are your reading preferences?
