Book Blogger Hop: November 18th – 24th

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, it was relaunched on February 15, 2013 by Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addict. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

Do you like writing short or long reviews?
(submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

I actually quite like writing both! It really depends on the book. Sometimes I’ve loved a book and only write a short review because there’s only so many ways I can say “It was great!”. Other times I have a bit more to say about it. My graphic novel reviews do tend to run on the shorter side, but that’s largely because I don’t want to give too much away a lot of the time! It feels like they tend to have a few more twists and revelations than a novella or novel.

I do try to keep my reviews on the shorter side, but sometimes I worry they might be too short if I don’t feel I have much to say. This is really hard when it’s a book I want to shout about from the rooftops, as I don’t know if I’m persuasive enough! So, something I have just started doing – making notes! I found when trying to think of moments or specific things in some books, I was kind of blanking. Not that I’m not paying attention, but I read quite a lot, so once I’ve read a few more books it’s like the information gets pushed from my brain. Hopefully by making a few notes as I’m reading, sketching out my general impressions, I can make my reviews better and be better prepared when doing things like Top Ten Tuesday or book tags.

What about you? Do you enjoy short or longer reviews? What about when reading – do you prefer a review on the shorter side, or with a bit more detail?
