Blogmas Day 23 – Let’s Talk Bookish: Holiday Books

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme that was originally created and hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books starting in August 2019, and was then cohosted with Dani @ Literary Lion from May 2020 to March 2022. Book Nook Bits has hosted since April 2022.

December 23: Holiday Books
(Aria)

Prompts: Christmas books and movies dominate the media during the winter season, but Christmas isn’t the only holiday being celebrated. Do you like reading holiday books at all? Have you ever read a holiday book about another religion? What about a holiday book not set during the winter season? If you’re religious but don’t celebrate Christmas, do you feel represented in the holiday media?

This is something I definitely need to get better at. I only really started reading Christmas books last year, and it wasn’t long before then when I started reading seasonally. I think for next year I’ll pick up some holiday books that aren’t as Christmas-focused. Off the top of my head, I can’t think that any of the Christmas books I have read have been heavily religious, but anything with Christmas is always (of course) going to only be relevant to a part of the population in any country.

So I haven’t read a holiday book about another religion but I will definitely make an effort to do so next year! And holiday books not set during winter is a really great idea too, so I’ll be keeping an eye out. And please let me know your holiday recommendations too!

I’m not religious but was raised Christian and do still celebrate Christmas, which is largely the same background as the Christmas books I’ve read, so I will be branching out in 2023.
