The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, it was relaunched on February 15, 2013 by Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addict. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.
Are books a must-have in your home?
(submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)
Yes! They absolutely are! Our house is filled with books as we’re both big readers, though fair to say I have a fair few more than my partner. I didn’t have many of my own books growing up, but made up for that by borrowing as many from the library as I could at a time, and once I started earning my own money, books were one of the first things I treated myself to.
Between books I just couldn’t help but pick up and arcs, I now have a pretty big collection. We have shelves full of books in the living room, bedroom, my office, and more boxes alongside all that – we are working through slowly to get rid of some, but it is nice to have so many at my fingertips.
The very first time I went to my partner Rich’s house, I kind of didn’t totally know what to expect. We had initially bonded over our love of horror (especially Stephen King), Doctor Who and video games. But he was very excited to show me his bookshelf, and when he opened the living room door, revealing it and the many many books crammed within, my eyes lit up like Belle.
As I bent down to look at the books on the lowest shelves, something jumped on my back – and after the surprise wore off, I laughed, not too hard until Rich lifted 2pac off me. There was no hesitation with her, and it felt like she had, somehow, claimed me.
So yes, books are a must have, because when I think of a house full of books, that’s the memory that comes to mind – me, Rich, a tiny black cat and shelves full of books.
