I love this series so, so much and the sooner I can get my hands on Volume 9 the better. It’s really hard to talk too much about this without giving away spoilers, but this is…well, it’s Saga, so safe to say I was feeling kind of weepy by the end, but this volume ends on a kind of beautiful almost-high note, even if we’re well aware it won’t last forever.
There are moments of sadness and pain here, we see Hazel grow up just a little more, and we see Petrichor get to, well, be Petrichor, in the best possible way. Characters are as endearing and wonderful and frustrating and wtf as always, the whole volume taking you from one extreme to the other as you try to digest what you’re reading. Prince Robot gets some development here, too, which is nice to see, as he kind of goes from a “when is he going to die” character to “oh I hope you stick around for a while”.
Art is consistently fantastic. Saga is just one of those graphic novels you can spend an age just going over frame by frame, admiring how well Staples manages to bring this all to life. Honestly, it’s got a well-deserved fame by this point, and it’s definitely one that once I finish all volumes, I’m going to want to go back and read every one.
Basically, Saga continues to be excellent, I continue to be a fan, and I hope I don’t have to wait too long to get hold of the next volume.
