Book Casting: Rahul Kohli

Now seemed like a good time to dig into this again, and I thought why not look at what sort of roles one of my absolute favourite actors would be perfect for! Honestly, I’ve loved Kohli ever since seeing him in iZombie, which is a really great TV series well worth checking out if you haven’t yet. iZombie really allowed him to show his loveable, geeky, sometimes-pining side, and he pulled it off so well. And after that, well, his characters in Mike Flanagan’s shows are always fantastic and memorable. So, what three book adaptations do I think Kohli would be absolutely perfect (as ever) in…

Previously: Scott Michael Foster / Hari Nef

Roles I Know Him For: iZombie, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher

Books

Perilous Times by Thomas D. Lee

Adaptation Type: TV Series – Fantasy
Role: Dai ap Llywelyn

Normally, I would only suggest a Welsh actor to play this character…but if Kohli can learn Welsh to a decent degree, I think he could just pull it off. Dai is such a funny (unintentionally to himself) wonderful character, who appears at just the right time in the novel, and I think it would really give Kohli an opportunity to shine. But again, he’d have to learn Welsh for the role. It’s impossible to do, otherwise. (And I’m not saying more about this character because this book is fantastic and you should just read it!)

Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert

Adaptation Type: Film – Rom-Com
Role: Zafir Ansari

We know Kohli can brood, we know he can pine, we know he’s very, very good at that whole “I know we should be friends but I really can’t help but want to touch you” look. And, honestly, I really, really want to see him as a full on romantic lead. He deserves it, at least once but hopefully as many times as he’d want to do it. And Take a Hint would make an excellent, enjoyable film.

Becoming Crone by Lydia M. Hawke

Adaptation Type: Film – Fantasy
Role: Lucan

I can’t quite explain it, but there’s something about Rahul Kohli that makes me feel he’d suit the character of Lucan really, really well, but it would still be something different for him – not as dark as Flanagan’s work, but still with darker moments.

What do you think? Like the choices, think I should have gone for something else – or maybe there’s a book character you love who you can’t help but imagine as a particular actor? As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
