Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
This was fun! And such a great prompt, giving a few different options – it was quite hard to find books for this, so I’ve got 6 for this week, but hopefully you find a couple new books below or at least realise maybe now’s the time to pick up one you’ve hesitated over. It’s May, it’s spring, it’s a perfect time for a new book! (Though let’s be honest, when isn’t?)
Full prompt: May Flowers — Pick your own title for this one to reflect the direction you choose to go with this prompt (books with flowers on the cover, flower names in the title, characters whose names are flower names, stories involving flowers/gardeners)
Top Six Flowers in Book Titles
Lavender Speculation by Jamie Zaccaria

Genre: Horror
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: October 17th, 2023
This short story collection from Jamie Zaccaria is so aptly named, and the name itself really makes it stand out – if you like single author speculative fiction collections, Lavender Speculation is worth a read.
The Rose Daughter by Maria Lewis

Genre: Urban Fantasy
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: January 1st, 2021
I still need to pick up the first book in this series, but I absolutely adored The Rose Daughter. It’s got solid worldbuilding and a plot that totally hooks you in, and a main character who is absolutely fascinating.
The Foxglove King by Hannah F. Whitten

Genre: Fantasy
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: March 7th, 2023
I have the second book and I am so excited to read it – I absolutely fell in love with The Foxglove King, and it’s one of my favourite fantasy books from the last few years. Definitely worth a read, and I can’t wait to read The Hemlock Queen.
Nettle & Bone by T. Kingfisher

Genre: Fantasy
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: April 26th, 2022
Kingfisher’s work is absolutely excellent, and this is an author I immediately connected with from the moment I (finally!) picked up one of her books – Nettle & Bone is so engrossing with such a great, dark fairy tale feel, it was very hard to put down!

Genre: Contemporary
Age: Young Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: January 9th, 2021
I adored The Hate U Give, and this prequel – exploring the youth of Maverick Carter, Starr’s father – compliments it perfectly, especially with the title inspired by Tupac’s book of poetry.

Genre: Historical Fantasy
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: May 1st, 2018
I really need to read The Dragon Republic. Anyway, this book was so incredibly impactful – it took me a while to pick up, after hearing a lot about it, and it was such a dark read at times, but the writing, the themes, the overall plot, it was hard to believe how young Kuang was when writing! If you’ve somehow missed this, I really do recommend checking it out. I also adored Kuang’s Babel.
I’d love to hear your favourite books with flowers in the titles, and if you’ve taken part in Top Ten Tuesday for this week, what you went with for this week’s prompt!

Nettle & Bone is on my wishlist. I only found 6 books this week, all on my TBR pile or want-to-read library list.
