I feel like I’m on a bit of a roll with these, and managing to get the TBR down, though very, very slowly. Still, it is getting there, and I can’t believe I’m not far off the 70th instalment of this. I haven’t calculated how many it would take to get to the end (I don’t want to make myself cry) but it really is a long, long way off. But that’s fine, as I do reduce it every time I do this, and hopefully one day I might get it at a much more manageable level.

143. Zombies: Encounters with the Hungry Dead
Edited by John Skipp

Genre: Horror
Published: January 1st, 2009
Most zombie books I’ve come across have almost automatically gone, mainly because it’s such a…tired trope by this point, so it’s got to be something really eye catching for me to want to read it. There’s names here I really like, luckily ones that outweigh the names of people I quite frankly don’t, but what really makes this intriguing for me is the addition of essays. That makes me want to check this out.

144. Rudyard Kipling’s Tales of Horror and Fantasy
Rudyard Kipling

Genre: Horror & Fantasy
Published: January 1st, 2008
I was definitely in a short story mood around this time, wasn’t I? I do find it interesting to go back in genre history and see what sort of things were being written about at the time, especially when it comes to horror, so I’m still intrigued by this one.

145. Zombies: The Recent Dead
Edited by Paula Guran

Genre: Horror
Published: October 18th, 2010
Similar to the previous zombie book, there are names here I really do like (including Tim Waggoner) and I like Guran as an editor, despite the the bad taste one name here especially leaves. Still, I think some of the works by other authors are worth checking out in this anthology.

146. The Dark Descent
Edited by David G. Harwell

Genre: Horror
Published: October 1st, 1987
I’m not doing too great at getting this down today. I actually find this one especially intriguing, because of the names attached to it and the time it came out, and the way it’s pitched as tracing the evolution of horror. I really wouldn’t mind getting my hands on this.

147. The Best of Joe R. Lansdale
Joe R. Lansdale

Genre: Horror
Published: January 1st, 2010
This is not the first Lansdale book to come up in these lists, and it won’t be the last, but this one is an automatic no. I don’t support authors who go out of their way to defend those who have made a habit of harassment.
Status: Gone
Not many removed today, but at least that’s one down. What do you think? Read any of these, agree/disagree with the choices? I always find this pretty fun to do, especially seeing how my taste changed over time. These books were all added in December 2013, so at that point it looks like I was really itching for short stories!
