My Goodreads Want to Read shelf is way, way too big. It’s a huge, disorganised mess, and I long ago had to stop using it to actually track books I want. So, these posts are my way of trying to reduce it, at least a bit. And so far I’ve done 68 of them, which I think is pretty impressive! When I hit 70 I’ll be looking at my stats again to see exactly how many I’ve managed to actually get rid of, but for now, well, today’s is fairly zombie-heavy, again, and I forever remain hopeful that at some point the zombie books are going to disappear, or at least not show up as much!

155. Bad Blood
Rhiannon Lassiter

Genre: Horror
Published: August 2nd, 2007
This one sounds like it could possibly actually be pretty interesting, and it sounds different and creepy with the children playing games. I kind of like that cover, too.

156. Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament
S.G. Browne

Genre: Horror – Humour
Published: January 1st, 2009
Okay, this one sounds like it has the possibility of being pretty funny. Most of the zombie books I’ve removed from my Want to Read are because they all sound pretty samey – military focused, or lone survivors trekking across America, etc, but this? This could be pretty fun with the focus on the zombies themselves.

157. Blood Crazy
Simon Clark

Genre: Horror
Published: January 1st, 1995
Meh. I find the more vague some of these blurbs are, the less keen I am on checking out the book. Oh no, the world ends…and? Who is the MC? In a long list of post-apocalyptic fiction, there’s nothing here that stands out. This could be an amazing book, but all that blurb did was make me yawn.

158. The Unwashed Dead
Ian Woodhead

Genre: Horror
Published: March 26th, 2011
Even before I get to the blurb, I’m not a big fan of that cover. The blurb says a lot, without really saying much at all. The most interesting thing about this is it’s set in England, so a bit different than the previous zombie books on this list, but the way the blurb is written gives me little hope for the book itself.

159. Raising Stony Mayhall
Daryl Gregory

Genre: Horror
Published: June 28th, 2011
Now, this one does sound very different, and I’m instantly grabbed by that blurb. A zombie child who grows up in an adoptive family, with a zombie outbreak taking pace in 1968. There’s definitely enough going on here that I’m hooked already by Stony’s story, and I want to give this book a chance.

Two more books down! I’m okay with that, though the Want to Read definitely feels very zombie heavy right now. Maybe I can get rid of a few more of them next time – we’ll see!
