#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook and you can learn more about it here. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.
Today’s topic is a really fun one, and I had a great time picking out my TBR books that are about books! There are so many others I’ve got, too, but these are the ones I am especially excited for.
#5OnMyTBR August 19th: Books About Books
Georgette Heyer’s Regency World by Jennifer Kloester

Genre: Nonfiction – History
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: October 6th, 2005
Why I Want to Read: Part of the reason I haven’t read this yet is I want to read more of Heyer’s work before I dive into this, though I’ve read 2 of her Regency books so far and absolutely adored them! I think this is going to be a great read, especially as I really do love Regency Romances and the chance to explore the real world society most are based on is one I’m looking forward to!
The Dark Side of Alice in Wonderland by Angela Youngman

Genre: Nonfiction – History – Horror
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: April 5th, 2021
Why I Want to Read: I’ve long been fascinated by the way Alice in Wonderland is often used as a springboard for darker stories, whether it’s American McGee’s Alice games, or films like Malice in Wonderland, I love stuff that explores the darker side of children’s stories, and I was super excited to see a book diving even deeper into it.
Monster, She Wrote: The Women Who Pioneered Horror and Speculative Fiction by Lisa Kröger, Melanie R. Anderson

Genre: Nonfiction – Biography – Horror
Age: Adult
Format: Hardback
Published: September 17th, 2019
Why I Want to Read: For starters, this is an absolutely stunning looking book! Despite efforts in recent years to highlight margenalised voices in horror, and to draw more attention to the historical figures who were involved in the genre, it still feels like too many are overlooked. I’m excited to read this book and find out more about certain women both familiar and unfamiliar to me.
The Science of Stephen King by Meg Hafdahl and Kelly Florence

Genre: Nonfiction – Biography – Horror
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: October 5th, 2020
Why I Want to Read: I really loved The Science of Women in Horror, and I’m super curious about what the writers examine when it comes to King’s works. For a lot of folks, King is THE horror writer they know of. For horror fans, he’s often one of the first horror writers we’ll encounter, normally by reading one of his books ‘too young’. So yes, I will happily read the science behind King’s works.
Shakespearean Gothic by Christy Desmet and Anne Williams

Genre: Nonfiction – Literary Criticism
Age: Adult
Format: Hardback
Published: September 27th, 2009
Why I Want to Read: I’ve only read one book in the Gothic Literary Series (Welsh Gothic), but I loved it, and generally I do enjoy exploring more of the gothic. I also really like Shakespeare, and I’m intrigued about what seems to be his contributions to the genre.
I’d love to hear your thoughts if you’ve read any of these, or your recommendations for books about books!
