I love autumn – when the weather gets a little crisper, cooler, and I can pull out my big, snuggly, comfy clothes again. Autumn always feels more like the start of ‘new things’ to me than the actual new year does, maybe because it’s the start of the new school year, but it’s also when I start really focusing on the rest of the year – Halloween, Bonfire Night, my birthday, Christmas – and plan for the following year, too!
Let’s Talk Bookish September 20th:
Fall TBR
Prompts: It’s almost fall! Are there books you’re looking forwards to reading as the weather gets cooler? Do you like to read specific kinds of books during fall? Are there any kinds of books you absolutely cannot read during fall?
Although I’ll mostly be concentrating on my reading challenges book through autumn, there are definitely different kinds of books I look forward to once we get into September. Starting with Halloween! With our ‘Halloween House Party’ taking place over at Divination Hollow, I try and read a couple of Halloween themed books or general ‘lighter’ horror/books with more Halloween vibes to review there.
Once we get to about mid-October, I start looking at my Christmas reading – I like to start on this early(ish), so I can get reviews planned and scheduled ready for Blogmas. I like to try and mix it up, so I’m not just reading Christmas books, or at least not just reading Christmas Romances, and usually I only have Christmas books as ebooks anyway so I’m normally reading something else as physical and audiobooks.
That tends to be the books I enjoy reading during this time of the year – spooky or romance, stuff that has seasonal ‘vibes’, more than in summer. I think there’s some books that are so ‘themed’ around Halloween, autumn and the holidays that reading them at other times of the year just doesn’t feel right!
As for books I cannot read…I don’t think there are any! The days drawing in and colder weather means almost any book works. If it’s a summery book, it can help to warm up. Even books centred around specific holidays outside the autumn/winter period can work well, especially when the weather is downright miserable!
What type of books do you enjoy reading through autumn? Do you like to have specific books for the season, or is it more a general mood type thing?
