#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook and you can learn more about it here. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.
I have to admit, this week’s #5OnMyTBR ended up a bit…London-centric! It wasn’t intentional, but for some reason the most easily identifiable ‘city’ books I own are set in London! A lot of the others I have seem to be small towns or villages, but this prompt does make me feel the itch to read more ‘city’ stories. Enough rambling – let’s dive in!
#5OnMyTBR September 30th: City Setting
Hex and the City by Kate Johnson

Genre: Romance – Fantasy
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: September 3rd, 2023
City: London
Why I Want to Read: This one feels like it’s been coming up more often recently. I really do like these kind of witchy romance books, and this one sounds intriguing with the MC living next to Highgate Cemetery and working in a magic shop in Covent Garden.
The Love Rematch by Kay Marie

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: October 16th, 2023
City: LA
Why I Want to Read: I have to admit, I’ve got a bit of a sweet spot for second change romances, and this one sounds really fun, throwing jewellery maker Emily onto a dating show, where her ex is the producer. I’m expecting sparks to fly here!
The Haunting of Moscow House by Olesya Salnikova Gilmore

Genre: Horror – Gothic
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: September 3rd, 2024
City: Moscow
Why I Want to Read: I really like reading gothic works, especially ones that take place outside England, and I do need to read more gothic, too. This one sounds pretty intriguing, and definitely very different, focused on two sisters dealing with the Bolsheviks taking over their ancestral home.
London by Peter Ackroyd

Genre: Non-Fiction – History
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: December 5th, 2000
City: London
Why I Want to Read: This one is a little different because it’s non-fiction. I love London – I haven’t been as much as I’d like, but every time I’ve gone I’ve experienced something different. It really has its own personality, and I love finding out more about the history of the place, so I’m keen to dig into this and discover even more of what’s beneath the surface.
Cursed Under London by Gabby Hutchinson Crouch

Genre: Historical Fantasy
Age: Adult
Format: eboook
Published: July 11th, 2024
City: London
Why I Want to Read: I love Historical Fantasy, and this one is by one of the Horrible Histories writers, is set in an alternative Elizabethan London, and contains the undead – what more could I possibly ask for?
