Blogtober Day 2: 2024 Reading Challenges Update #9

I feel like September was a good reading month for me, in a way August didn’t seem to be. What did help though was picking up a few non-challenge, short books, which gave me a nice break from the challenges without being too long of one. Now we’re getting into October, I’m hoping to finish at least one of these challenges relatively soon, so I can start on my Christmas reading.

Goal: 61/70 (+8)

Disney Reading Challenge 2024
16/40 (+2) Prompts Completed

Currently Reading

Woody – You’re My Favourite Deputy – re-read your favourite book

Still working my way through the audiobook for Interview with the Vampire, and I’m really enjoying it, especially after really loving the TV series.

Read

Jiminy Cricket – Good piece of wood too – a book with a bit of spice

I said in my previous update that Princess Broken was ‘fun so far’. I stick by it, and it remained fun throughout, if a little silly in places. I really enjoyed this one, and look forward to reading the next in the series.

Mrs Potts – a book with a happy ending

For this, I read the wonderful contemporary YA, Four Eids and a Funeral. It’s a sweet, beautiful book and perfect for YA readers.

Books to Read: The First Days, Get a Life, Chloe Brown, The Stars Too Fondly

Musicals Reading Challenge 2024
17/24 (+3) Prompts Completed

Currently Reading

Annie Get Your Gun – Anything You Can Do (I Can Do Better) – Rivals

For this one, I’m reading What the River Knows. I’d read and loved Together We Burn by the same author, so was really looking forward to this one, and so far really haven’t been disappointed. I’m very much enjoying it, and loving the tension between Inez and Whit.

Read

Hamilton – My Shot – a book about/featuring a key historical figure

For this, I went with Bill Bryson’s Shakespeare. It’s a great, accessible way to learn more about what we know of Shakespeare’s life, and Bryson’s writing keeps things entertaining and memorable.

The Sound of Music – Do-Re-Mi – involves music

I went for non-fiction for this one, too, taking it as an opportunity to read You’re Music, by Lesley Chow. It’s a really good examination of some of the most famous women in pop.

Across the Universe – I’ve Just Seen a Face – fated mates and/or instalove

I really enjoyed Mark of the Wolf initially, but the last third felt unfortunately rushed and messy. A fun read let down by a lack of editing, imho.

Books to Read: Time Lord Victorious: The Knight, the Fool and the Dead, The Enemy Within: The Secret War Against the Miners, All the White Spaces

Avengers Challenge!
6/6, 5/5 Bonus (+1) Prompts Completed
CHALLENGE COMPLETED

Read

Falcon/Iron Patriot/War Machine – anything with a solider – more points if it’s post 1970’s

I finished reading Darkness on the Edge of Town, which is the end of this challenge for me! I found this one to be really fun, and although it’s a small number of books, it’s great to see it done. As for the book itself, I wasn’t really fussed. I do plan to continue with the Stranger Things book series, but I’m unimpressed so far.

Barbie Reading Challenge
11/17 (+1) 1/1 Bonus Prompts Completed

Currently Reading

Forever & Again – I’ll always be there, forever and again – Your comfort book you go back to again and again

This one is Interview with the Vampire again. It’s taking me a while to get through this one, but I am really enjoying revisiting the book in a different format.

Read

I’m Just Ken – Cause I’m just Ken. Anywhere else I’d be a ten – a book that isn’t super popular, but that you really liked!

This is another repeat, this time for Princess Broken. Like I said, I really liked it, and it’s definitely not super popular.

Books to Read: Ace of Spades, A Hunger Like No Other, Love That Journey for Me

Netflix Movies & TV Shows
14/24 (0) Prompts Completed

No progress on this one, as I’ve focused on other challenges. At the start of the year, I was determined to complete this one, but that’s…not going to happen now, I don’t expect. But that’s not a problem – I’ll have to make even more of an effort to complete this one in 2025!

Books to Read: So You Want to Talk About Race, Daisy Jones & The Six, All That Remains

I feel like I didn’t do particularly bad in September, and got through quite a few books. I’m really trying hard to at least finish the Musicals Challenge by the end of the year, and I’ll be doing less in 2025.
