I have a brand new, created by me Book Tag for you today! This one is open to all, so feel free to have a go (any time of the year!), I would just ask that you link back to this post if you do.
‘Creatures’ are a staple of horror and Halloween, and this book tag focuses on the ones we often see emerge at this time of the year, either as part of decorations or as costumes. There aren’t really any rules to this, except to have fun and, as mentioned above, please link back if you use it, so I can check out your answers (and maybe find new books to read!).
The book tag is simple: pick a book that features the creature! It can be the last book you read with that creature, or your favourite, or some other criteria you might choose. If you want to have some extra fun, share some tips for a costume or maybe your own costume from Halloweens past.
Halloween Creatures Book Tag
Vampires

Costume: Vampire was a common costume when I was a kid, and an easy one – though more often it was my brothers dressed as vampires. Some fake blood, fake fangs, maybe white face paint, and a black bin bag (yep!) as a cape, and viola! Vampire!
This was a hard one – Interview is one of my favourite books, but so is Dracula. But I landed on Interview with the Vampire for this as I’m currently rereading it, and of course with the TV series it’s very much landed back in pop culture.
Zombies

Costume: This was a very quick and easy one as a uni student – a white shirt (likely an old school shirt!) with some well placed rips, splattered with fake blood. More white face paint and blood over skin, also with the option of fake-tattoo-style wounds!
World War Z has always stuck in my head – it’s done in such an intriguing style, and in a way it reads like a history book instead of fiction. I loved it, and really appreciated the way Brooks did ensure the whole world was covered, including a castle in Wales being used as a fortress!
Witches

Costume: Another easy childhood costume – simple black hat, maybe a broom, and once again a black bin bag, though this time with holes for your head and arms, to create more of a cloak than a cape. Bonus: no face paint required!
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches is such a lovely, wonderful book, and one I thoroughly enjoyed reading – to be honest, I’ll take any excuse to mention it!
Werewolves

Costume: I have never dressed up as a werewolf for Halloween, but I did dress up as Red Riding Hood-the-wolf-hunter, and that was fun. For a wolf costume though, the fake hairy mask is a must!
I really need to read more ‘werewolf’ horror, so if you have suggestions please throw them at me. For this one, I’ve gone for a paranormal romance I really enjoyed, which was also one of the first ‘why choose’ romances I read. I loved the way the werewolves are handled in this, and if you like paranormal why choose, definitely check it out.
Ghosts

Costume: Easy – old bedsheet, cut some holes for eyes, and you’re done! I don’t think I ever dressed up as a ghost either, but for those going for more of a funny or cute vibe, you can’t go wrong with this, can you?
I’ve read many great ghost books over the years, and I love ghost books in all forms, but for this I went with one of the earliest paranormal romances I read – Meg Cabot’s I Love You to Death. I liked Princess Diaries, but it was reading this and Cabot’s other paranormal series that made me love her as an author. And it’s definitely one of those books I’ve really considered rereading over the years, though I still need to dig out my copies!
I hope you have fun with this, and don’t forget to link me so I can check out your answers, too!
