We’re nearing the end of Blogtober, and so far I’ve managed to keep up with a post a day! I’m pretty proud of that, and really hoping I can keep this up until Halloween. For today, it’s a suitably themed topic from Let’s Talk Bookish.

Halloween Reading
Prompts: It’s almost Halloween! Do you like reading scary books? Do you like horror as a genre? Do you have any favorite horror novel tropes or subgenres? What books do you like to read around Halloween? What do you think your favorite book characters would dress up as for Halloween?
If you’re not new to this blog, you’ll know I love scary books and horror. If you are new, hi, I’m Elle, and I run Divination Hollow Reviews, which is a horror review website (though we cover horror adjacent and other dark genres, too). So yes, I love horror, I think it’s a great genre for so many reasons and I love that there’s such a huge variety to it, too.
I think my favourite tropes/subgenres have to be…anything involving ghosts or vampires, the gothic (in multiple forms), and the supernatural in general. I read horror all year, so for Halloween I like to mix it up a little and throw in either some younger-aimed horror, or paranormal romance, sometimes more paranormal mystery type books. Oh, and pretty much anything with witches! As some examples, this year for Halloween, I covered the books Hexed and Mark of the Wolf on the site. But I’ve also cross-posted some horror novels from the last year to this blog, too, so you can see what sort of horror I like to read throughout the year.
I always find ‘favourite character’ questions hard – there are so many characters I just completely and utterly adore, it’s hard to pinpoint a ‘favourite’! And maybe it’s just me, sometimes I do struggle to think of things like what they’d dress up as? I think I overthink it! But I would absolutely love to hear if you have ideas for what your favourite characters would dress up as, and if you want to link me to some fanart for different characters in different costumes, that would be amazing – I always love seeing those kinds of things!
