2024 Reading Challenges Update #10

I don’t think October was the best month for me with these challenges – I realised a couple of months ago I wasn’t going to complete all the challenges I had, so I have been mainly focusing on completing my Musicals Challenge, at least. But even then, I’ve been a bit slow – one of my current reads is quite a long book, so it’s taking me a while. Hopefully November is better!

Goal: 67/70 (+6)

Disney Reading Challenge 2024
16/40 (0) Prompts Completed

Currently Reading

Woody – You’re My Favourite Deputy – re-read your favourite book

No change here, though I’m not far off finishing Interview with the Vampire, so there’s that at least.

Books to Read: The First Days, Get a Life, Chloe Brown, The Stars Too Fondly

Musicals Reading Challenge 2024
21/24 (+4) Prompts Completed

Currently Reading

Newsies – Seize the Day – About or involving unions and/or workers’ rights

For this, I’m currently reading The Enemy Within: The Secret War Against the Miners. It’s interesting, but it’s a bit of a slog, though I think that’s to be expected with such a dense, information-heavy book. There’s a lot of names and numbers, but it’s very informative.

Read

Annie Get Your Gun – Anything You Can Do (I Can Do Better) – Rivals

I finished What the River Knows, and really enjoyed it. It’s a really good historical fantasy, and definitely exceeded expectations.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show – The Time Warp – a book involving time travel

I wasn’t as fussed on Time Lord Victorious: The Knight, the Fool and the Dead, which is a shame as I do want to get more into the Doctor Who books, but I felt a bit lost going into this one. Not completely sure if I’ll carry on with TLV yet, but I’ll still check out other DW media.

Blood Brothers – Tell Me It’s Not True – A book that ripped your heart out

Okay, it wasn’t like Anyone’s Ghost had me sobbing, but it’s an emotional book that deals with quite a lot, exploring queerness, grief and love as Theron comes to terms with the death of his friend and first love, Jake.

Come From Away – Welcome to the Rock – A harsh enviroment

All the White Spaces was good, if a bit slow. It follows Jonathan Morgan stowing away on a ship to join an Antarctic expedition, fulfilling the dreams of his brothers who both died in WWI. Interesting ideas here, and it picks up a lot when the ship arrives in the Antarctic.

Books to Read: TBC

Barbie Reading Challenge
11/17 (0) 1/1 Bonus Prompts Completed

Forever & Again – I’ll always be there, forever and again – Your comfort book you go back to again and again

This one is Interview with the Vampire again, which I am hoping to finish in the next week or so. I’m hoping I can finish this challenge completely by the end of the year, but I’m doubtful, largely as the rest of the books are physical ones. But if I do finish the Musicals challenge, I’ll likely look over this and maybe see if I can swap out one or two books for ebooks.

Books to Read: Ace of Spades, A Hunger Like No Other, Love That Journey for Me

Netflix Movies & TV Shows
14/24 (0) Prompts Completed

This one is pretty much parked until 2025 – I’m very glad there was no timeframe for this, but I’ll definitely be reducing the amount of challenges I do next year, so I can focus on getting this complete and doing my Musicals challenge.

Books to Read: So You Want to Talk About Race, Daisy Jones & The Six, All That Remains

So, that was October – as well as my challenge books, I was also trying to read some books for Halloween at DHR, and some books for the event we’re running this month (Worldwide Horror), but I think with trying to read other stuff, I didn’t do too badly. Hopefully I can finish the Musicals Challenge in November!
