It’s December already and I’m not quite sure how that happened (outside of, you know, the general march of time and all that). Anyway, this is my last but one update for my 2024 Reading Challenges – there’ll be another one to come in January, then it’ll be diving into the challenges for 2025. I have already started planning out which ones I’ll be taking part in – I want to give myself a touch more flexibility next year, so we’ll see how that goes.

Donald Duck – As someone to choose your next read
For this one, I basically asked a small group of friends to vote on my next audiobook – Gay Britannia came out the winner, and I’m really enjoying it! It’s a great mix of different styles, incorporating interviews with queer activists and celebrities with a more history element, lifted (as far as I can tell) from BBC Radio programmes.

Read
Woody – You’re My Favourite Deputy – re-read your favourite book
I finally finished Interview with the Vampire! AI really enjoyed revisiting this in a different format, and am hoping I can dig out my old copies next year and carry on with the series.

I don’t think I’ll get any more books read from this challenge, and I have made the decision not to attempt it next year – unfortunately, it’s too many books alongside my Musicals Challenge, though it is a very fun challenge and one I recommend!
Books to Read: The First Days, Get a Life, Chloe Brown, The Stars Too Fondly
Musicals Reading Challenge 2024

Newsies – Seize the Day – About or involving unions and/or workers’ rights
I picked a very long, dense book for this one and although I kind of regret that choice, I am enjoying The Enemy Within. It’s fascinating and infuriating. But once I finish this, I’ll have completed my challenge!

Read
Pippin – Corner of the Sky – Coming of Age
For this, I read the novella Wild Spaces. It was okay but I wasn’t a huge fan of the nameless characters technique, but I can see why others would really enjoy this one.
Sweet Charity – Big Spender – Featuring a rich and/or ‘upper class’ character
I loved Her Princess at Midnight! It was a fun, sapphic, regency retelling of Cinderella, where Cynthia falls for the prince’s sister instead. Really enjoyable.

Books to Read: None!

Watati – A mystery or thriller book
The books that were left on this challenge were all physical books, so I’ve made a slight amendment, and likely will again if I get time to read more before the end of the year! Instead of Ace of Spades for this prompt, I’ve gone for Heartbreak Incorporated, as I have that on my Kindle. We’ll see how it goes, but at the moment I don’t have high hopes of finishing this challenge in time, unfortunately.

Read
Forever & Again – I’ll always be there, forever and again – Your comfort book you go back to again and again
This was also Interview with the Vampire, so at least that’s one more prompt down!
Books to Read: A Hunger Like No Other, Love That Journey for Me, A Discovery of Witches
Netflix Movies & TV Shows
14/24 (0) Prompts Completed
No movement on this again – I mentioned before but I don’t think I’ll pick this one up again until 2025, but I am determined to finish off these ten next year!
Books to Read: So You Want to Talk About Race, Daisy Jones & The Six, All That Remains
So I haven’t done great on all the challenges, but it’s largely why I’m reducing the amount I’m doing for next year. I still want to finish the Netflix one, and I am pleased I finished the Avengers Challenge and am on track for the Musicals one, just got to get through this one final book which it feels like I’ve been reading forever! How are you doing with any goals/challenges you set for 2024?
